Long Time....No See

It has been sooooooo long since I've posted. Life has a way of changing the best laid plans. I have to admit that I haven't been stamping for fun in so very long....only when I needed a card for someone. The babies keep me running and I love every minute of it. Memories of those times are the things that last in this world....the important stuff. My grandbabies are growing so fast. Leighton is almost 3 and Rhys was 1 in March. Now we have another little girl on the way....Avary Layne....January 1st. God is so good, and has blessed me beyond measure.
I have a stamp workshop in the plans, so hopefully I will have some new projects to post in the coming weeks.

Sneak Peek......

I promised my stamping buddies that I'd offer them a "sneak peek" at the projects I have prepared for an upcoming workshop.
The main project will be a 2011 Desktop Calendar. I spotted this idea on Nancy Morgan's and Michelle Tech's website. We'll be using A Flower for all Seasons stamp set from SU!, rather than A Tree for All Seasons. We won't be using the same designer paper in the picture, since it is retired....we will be using something similar, however.

The Halloween project is one I posted several days ago. The paper will be different, since what I used is retired, but the basic design is the same.

The workshop will be a terrific time for you to browse through the new 2010-11 Idea Book, as well as the new Holiday Mini.

I was shopping in Walgreens last week and picked up a box of "ghost" Peeps, just knowing that it needed a covering of some sort! Since I have a ton of retired designer paper from Stampin' Up! (that I dearly love), I decided to use some on this project. I didn't even purchase any of the new Halloween paper. I'm trying to make it a point to use up my old paper before I invest in any more. (Let's see how long that lasts!)
I will post the template for the box in a day or two. The ghost stamp is from the stamp set Batty For you #116576 by Stampin' Up! The sentiment stamp is from another company, but I thought it was perfect for this project.

Feelin' a Little Witchy....

Not really.......we had a wonderful weekend at the lake. I climbed the stairs with my granddaughter about fifty million times....we threw little stuffed Dora, Boots, Swiper, and Baby Jaguar toys over the railing at the top....hid in the closet......played on the bed.....just stuff any grandma worthy of her name would do!! ;-)
We spent Saturday afternoon swimming by the dock. Leighton is a little fish.....and a daredevil. She loves jumping off the dock....with absolutely no fear (wearing her "puddle-jumpers" flotation vest). She rode the jet ski with her mama and daddy. Then, her papa convinced me to get on the jet ski with him.....BIG MISTAKE! He turned us over! Luckily, we were only about 10 yards from our dock, and of course, we had on life jackets. After that little escapade, papa and I decided that the float was more our speed!

I spent a little time before we left last week making this little tiny treat box. I used SU! Old Olive paper, but the image is from another company. I purchased it several years ago and just think it's precious. The instructions for the box came from Splitcoast Stampers. The pictures don't do the box justice. I just couldn't get a very good picture for some reason.

Don't fall out of your chair........I'm actually posting a project! I took a few minutes today to make this adorable treat bag! I was inspired after looking at Angie's precious bag....

The treat bag directions can be found on Splitcoast Stampers. All materials are from Stampin' Up! (some retired) except the dies used to punch the image and scalloped oval.

I have really missed blogging and all my blogging friends!

I'm still here..........it's been forever since I posted. I haven't done much stamping in the last few months. Hopefully, soon, I can slow down and get a little crafting into my life.
My sweet grandbabies are growing! It's hard to believe Leighton is almost 2 years old! My little Rhys will be 4 months old at the end of this month! Time certainly flies, doesn't it?
The summer is almost over for us......back to school on Friday, the 30th.

Big Red and His Little Sidekick...

Awwww...I just love these two guys! They were so much fun to make, and I used the same triangle box pattern as I used to make the reindeer earlier. The only difference was that I adjusted the size for the elf, so he'd be smaller. They'll be adorable filled with little candies, hanging on the Christmas tree.

Peppermint Patties are one of my very favorite candies, especially at Christmas, so I had to make these...I really didn't have a choice. It was either that, or eat the whole bag myself!

I worked on this Santa treat holder Friday evening and finished it up Saturday, but haven't had an opportunity to take pictures until today. So, here you go! I thought it turned out soooo cute! I had a package of Hershey's Santas, and was trying to find a cute way to package them. They're pretty chunky, so the treat holders that I've tried up 'til now just didn't work. I took a picture of my template, with measurements at the score lines. Cut the cardstock at 2-1/2" x 12". Score at 3/8", 1-1/8", 3-1/4", 4", 7-7/8", 8-5/8". Enjoy! Quickie Gift Card Instructions...

Here are the instructions for making the gift cards in the previous post.
1. You need a 12 x 12 piece of cardstock cut at 3 x 11-1/4". You can get 4 gift cards from one sheet of 12x12.
2. Score cardstock at 3-1/4 and 7-3/4. You should now have 3 sections measuring 3-1/4", 4-1/2", and 3-1/2". Using your 1-1/4 circle punch, punch a half-circle on the end of the 3-1/2" section.
3. Using your scallop edge punch, punch the opposite end (the 3-1/4" section). I didn't show this in my picture, but it is shown in the finished examples.
4. Fold the gift card holder as it will be when completed. Using the corner rounder punch, round all 4 corners.
5. Put sticky strip along the outside edges of the 3-1/2" section as shown. Fold up and adhere. This makes the pocket to hold the card.
6. Now you are ready to embellish with designer paper or stamps. I covered the front and back with DSP. The 3 pieces I used measured 3x3, 3-1/2 x 3, and 4-1/2 x 3. (You will have to punch the half circle to match the inside section and round the corners on the DSP to match each section.)

I hope this makes sense. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. By the way, I did not make up this design, but I cannot find where I got my information, unfortunately. If you know, please let me know because I want to give credit to the designer.

Staying power!

“Keep your mind on Jesus [and]…you won’t get discouraged and give up.” Hebrews 12:3

We all have had to endure hardship at one time or another, but when we don't have any explanation for why, it can leave us bewildered and frustrated. Often we question God about it...but He doesn't always give us an explanation. We can search His Word, go to Him in prayer, talk to a godly counselor, etc. It's okay to question....even David did....repeatedly, in Psalms....but God still considered him "a man after My own heart..." (Acts 13:22). I think the answer lies in keeping our eyes on Jesus. He was able to endure the suffering on the cross because he could look ahead and see how it glorified the Father and saved a lost and dying world. We can't do that...but we can look to Jesus and know that whatever we go through will be used to glorify God. The Psalmist said, “I have set the Lord always before me…he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved” [discouraged, or thrown by the situation] (Ps 16:8). We can draw our strength from Jesus and stay the course to victory.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the fact that I can keep my eyes on You, draw my strength from You, and whatever happens will be for Your glory. I shall not be moved. I love You. Amen and amen.

'O Christmas Tree...

I love to make pocket cards and treat holders, so this little grouping was so much fun to make. I used some kraft, of course, and some of that scrapbook paper I'm trying to use up. The punches I used were from SU!, as was the scallop circle image, however, the others were some acrylic stamps I bought online last year. The tree image on the pull-out card was from a 4-sided stamp I bought several years ago at the craft store. I thought it was the perfect image to coordinate with the tree design on the paper.

Every path does not lead to God. Jesus is The Way.

Father, I thank You for this day and for providing Your Son as a sacrifice that we, who believe, will have eternal life with You. Father, I do believe that Jesus Christ is The Way....the ONLY Way, and I have accepted Him into my heart as my Lord and Savior. I love You. Amen and amen.

When I was growing up, the highlight of the Christmas season was the much-anticipated showing of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on television. We waited allllllllll year to watch it! Now, through the miracle of modern technology, I can watch it in July if I want.... We have become so used to instant gratification... there's very little anticipation anymore. Oh, well...I wouldn't trade our technology to go back to the hulking box of a television we used to have, with the aluminum foil on the antennas to improve the reception. How did I get off track with that story? Must have been the elves' fault...
The other day, I gave a sneak peek at the project I've been working on. Well, now it's finished....TA-DA! This is my little Christmas album for the pictures I plan to take of my precious Ladybug. I started with a set of 6x6 chipboard pages...heaven only knows where they came from (I've been cleaning up my ~~dungeon~~ stamp room.) I used some unknown Christmas scrapbook paper I had in my stash (trying to use up some of the excess stuff that somehow has accumulated in my room). The elves were made using the ornament punch from Stampin' Up! I think it turned out pretty cute, considering the fact that I don't make a lot of scrapbook albums. It's that instant gratification thing again....scrapbooks take time, but cards can be made quickly.
Anyway, I'll post more pictures of the album once I get Leighton's pictures mounted.

Krafty Winter Post...

Kraft....again....oooohhhhh, I just love working with kraft paper! This card is another one of the Christmas Class cards. The images are from Winter Post by SU! I wanted to use Chocolate Chip 5/8" grosgrain, but ran out....so I had to settle for what was on hand (chocolate chip taffeta) and I'm not too crazy about it, but oh, well. The inspiration for this card came from Karen at Stampin' By the Bay.

You Can't Save Yourself!

“Not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8

Usually we encourage people to help themselves. Most of my life, I have been of the opinion that nobody could help you until you helped yourself. But, that's not entirely true. If you happen to be drowning, it's a huge mistake to try and “help” the lifeguard. When you’re flailing around in deep water you tire easily and sink faster; you also drag others down with you. That’s why a lifeguard will tell you to stop struggling and trust him.

That principle also applies to our salvation. God doesn't need our help to save us! God's Word says, “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ by grace you have been saved, and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” When Nicodemus came to talk to Jesus about salvation, he thought Jesus would tell him to abide by certain religious doctrines and exercises. Nicodemus failed to comprehend that we can’t earn God’s acceptance. He’s not impressed with our good works; in His eyes “...all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags...” Isaiah 64:6. A very humbling picture, wouldn't you say? God's grace is a free gift. Have you accepted it?

Father, I thank You for this beautiful day and for Your gift of grace. Thank You that I don't have to work my way to salvation...You accept me just as I am. All the work was done by Christ on the cross. I love You. Amen and amen.

Merry Moments Treat Holders....

She always comes up with such wonderful creations and tutorials so that we, too, can achieve paper nirvana....Seriously, Becky came up with this design and I purchased the instructions from her. It is sooooo simple to create, thereby making it the perfect gift for mass production. I used Chocolate Chip and Real Red cardstock with Merry Moments DSP. The images and paper are from SU!

Words to Live By...

I recently read that there are six principles to live by. Of course, I'm sure there are many others. Let's examine what God's Word says about each one:

Don't worry, when you're doing your best. God's Word says, “Trust in the Lord, and do good…and He shall give you the desires of your heart!” (Psalm 37:3-4)
Don't hurry, when success depends on accuracy. God's Word says, “Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty” (Proverbs 21:5)
Don't form conclusions until you have all the facts. God's Word says, “Do to others as you would like them to do to you” Luke 6:31
Don't believe a thing is impossible without trying it. When you are in God’s will, doing things God’s way, sensitive to His timing and willing to persevere, your problems are just a platform for Him to work on your behalf. His Word says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
Don't waste your time on trivial matters. In order to put first things first, think about what God's Word tells us, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Don't think that good intentions are an acceptable excuse for doing nothing. God's Word says, “Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” (James 2:17).

God's Word is full of principles to live by. These are just six of them. The scriptures are ones that I've heard over and over again....most of them I can recite by heart. That doesn't mean, unfortunately, that I practice what I preach. I try, but I always fall short, especially with number 6.

Father, I thank You for this day. Thank You for the principles in Your Word that You've given us to live by. I want to live my life according to Your Word, Lord, but I fall so many times. I ask you to forgive me for all the times that I have failed to do what I knew to do. Please give me strength and perseverance to live by Your principles. I love You. Amen and amen.

Is Your Love in a Box?

“Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.” Luke 7:44-47

In the gospel of Luke, we learn of a sinful woman who went to the Pharisee's house specifically to see Jesus. She brought an alabaster jar of expensive perfume, and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and poured the perfume on them. The Pharisee thought to himself that if Jesus was a prophet, he would surely know who it was that was touching him and what kind of woman she was. Jesus knew what he was thinking and rebuked him for it.

In other words, Jesus was telling us not to keep our love in a box. Pour it out...just as His love was poured out on the cross for us. If you think good things about someone, tell them. Go out of your way to fill their lives with joy while there’s still time. Don’t keep your love in a box!

Father, I thank You for this day and season of Thanksgiving. I thank You for reminding me to share the love that I have, while there is still time. None of us knows what the future holds, but I am so very thankful that You do, and You hold me in the palm of Your hand. Help me remember always to express the love and appreciation I have for others. I love You. Amen and amen.

Happy, Happy Turkey Day...

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! We spent a wonderful afternoon with family and relatives, eating and visiting and eating and visiting and...you get the picture... Fried turkey, dressing and gravy, baked ham, chicken and dumplings, creamed corn and squash from the garden, peas, broccoli casserole, hashbrown casserole, sweet potato crunch, yeast rolls, pumpkin cheesecake, ambrosia, chocolate delight, and banana pudding. I tried to take just a small spoonful of each thing...but even that was toooooooo much! I'm stuffed!

Long Time, No See...

Oh my gracious! It has been a whole month since my last post! Life has a way of sidetracking us, doesn't it? I've done a little stamping, just haven't had time to take pictures and post them. We had a wonderful time last weekend at my Christmas Classes (2 of them). I'm looking forward to working with another great bunch of ladies tomorrow evening. We'll be making the same adorable cards that we made in the classes last weekend. Hopefully in the next couple of days I'll be able to take pictures and post them.

We're out of school all of next week for Thanksgiving Holidays! Woo-Hoo!!! Lake Sinclair, here I come! Richard is leaving Friday morning, and I'm heading there as soon as school is out Friday afternoon. We'll be back in time for Thanksgiving dinner. ;-)

Well, my little Ladybug had her first birthday at the end of October, and is now walking! I have tons of birthday pictures. They're precious....of course! Where has the year gone? It's so hard to believe. It seems like I just held her for the first time. Mamas and grandmas, hold onto those babies as long as they'll let you. The time goes by way too quickly.

He's making a list and he's checking it twice.....NO PEEKING! This little notepad is perfect to make notes about Christmas gifts and shopping lists. It will fit nicely in a purse. I used Garden Green cardstock from SU! for the main folder. The designer paper was purchased online, as were the chipboard accents and sentiment.

Yesterday afternoon was spent making birthday invitations for my sweet little Ladybug's 1st birthday! I'll post the invitation hopefully later in the week. I also went down to Stella's and took pictures of Leighton in her birthday outfit. Stella ordered the most precious tutu and matching top featuring an appliqued cupcake. It was chilly here yesterday, so Leighton wore leggings and long sleeves under her outfit. Precious!!

We're here at Lake Sinclair, enjoying the Fall Break from school. Leighton and her parents spent the weekend with us. We visited the Georgia Aquarium (pictures forthcoming) and spent some time out on the boat Saturday evening. My Ladybug, it seems, was born to be a boat captain!

What a bummer! Imagine getting stuck every time you tried to leave the room... This poor little hummingbird managed to wind up in our screened porch Sunday afternoon. Every time it tried to get out, it's beak would get stuck in one of the holes in the screen. My husband was able to capture it and release it outdoors. Isn't it beautiful?

Don't look too closely...this is just practice....

I've been admiring these cards on many different blogs, so I thought I'd try it. It was so much fun...but next time I want to make the sky darker so there's more of a contrast with the trees. I was just a little afraid with my sponging this time. I love the effect, especially with the navy and silver. I'm thinking of using this as one of my Christmas Class cards.

This very simple card was made using the Sweet Centers stamp set (ornament tops) #116521. The ornaments are punched (1-3/4" circle punch #112004) out of flocked paper from Christmas Cocoa Specialty Paper #116770 and the sentiment is from Snow Swirled #111690. I stamped the ornament tops with Versa-Mark and embossed them with silver embossing powder. I used my Versa-Mark pen to hand-draw and emboss silver "threads" for the hangers.

This began as a Very Vanilla piece of cardstock with the top corners trimmed off. I added some strips of retired SU! designer paper (polka dots) and a strip of other designer paper. I stamped the image with Real Red from SU! The image, ovals, and scalloped oval are not from SU! I added a large eyelet from SU! with my Crop-a-Dile, and threaded a strip of ribbon through the eyelet. The edges of the tag were sponged with Creamy Caramel and Close to Cocoa. I love the vintage effect.

Have you ever been faced with having to make a decision or do something that caused you have butterflies in your stomach, a panic attack, or made you literally sick to your stomach from nerves. I have…many times…and whenever that happens, I remind myself that I can do anything for an hour, or a few hours, or a day…with God’s help and strength. Sometimes God places things in our path, or places us in situations where He knows we will struggle, but He does that to help us grow in Him. We have to remember that He sees the whole picture, we only see what’s right in front of our face….and sometimes, not even that. When we run into problems, any vision we might have had is often crippled. We have to reenergize our vision through faith. 1 Corinthians 2:16 says that “We have the mind of Christ”…God thinks His thoughts through us. Imagine how empowering that is!! So…there’s no limit to what we can do through Him!

Father, I thank You for this day and for reminding me that there are no limits to my vision, when You think Your thoughts through me. Help me to reenergize my vision, Lord, and lead me to make the decisions that will bring You the greatest honor and glory. I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.

We are still in Savannah. Richard's angioplasty went well. He had 3 blockages in his right leg, two of which they were able to fix with stent placement. The third blockage is in his knee area and the only way to fix that is with bypass surgery. We're headed to the cardiologist this morning and then back home. Thank you for all your prayers!

Where's Our Foundation?

When I read this scripture, it hit me that this could be the instructions for our generation. We've lost the age-old foundations in our country. It's up to our generation to rebuild those ancient ruins for our children and grandchildren. I have seen many Christians rise up and speak out for the good of our nation, but it will take all of us doing our part before things will get better. God leads us and directs our steps, but He expects us to take those steps....walking the walk.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the peace and comfort You've given us through this trial in our lives. I know that You will continue to care for us. You'll never leave us or forsake us. Please show us the way in which to go and lead us in what You'd have us to do to help repair the ancient ruins in our land. I love You. Amen and amen.

The Bigz XL Fancy Favor die (#115965) from SU! makes the perfect little treat box! It will make gift-giving so easy. It's great when you want to have a little something, but don't have a lot of time to spend on it.

There has been a lot of discussion around the web about the new IDA (Independent Demonstrator Agreement) from Stampin' Up! Most of it hasn't been very positive. I am a demo, but this is not my job. I can totally understand those whose livlihood depends on their Stampin' Up! income feeling as though they must sign the new agreement. I, however, have another job....this is a hobby for me...and always has been. I love Stampin' Up! products, but I am my own best customer, so I'm not too sure that I will be signing it. I have too much invested in stamping products sold by other companies to leave that stuff off my blog. If I choose not to sign, I will still purchase products from SU!, and I will continue to have classes at my house...I just won't be selling the product. Anyway, we have until the end of the month to make a decision.

I have a Halloween class coming up on October 3rd, and a Christmas class scheduled for Nov. 14th. If you're local and interested in coming, please email and let me know. I'd love to have you join us!

Anxious?

"Do not be anxious about anything." Philippians 4:6

We all have anxieties about things from time to time. There are certain anxieties that we all must face, like aging, disbility, retirement, illness, death, etc. There are also anxieties about decisions we must make, relationships, mistakes, etc. Anxiety can also come from the way we feel inside. Fear of rejection can lead us to shut others out of our lives. Anxiety can cripple us and leave us ineffective in all areas. It doesn't have to be that way, though. Our mind is the battlefield where victory is won or lost. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13) and we shouldn't be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, present our requests to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds (Philippians 4:6-7).

Father, I thank You for this day, and for the truth of Your Word. I needed this scripture today. You know my heart is anxious, but You promise to bring me peace and I trust that You will. I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.

Normally, in our county, we have an Open House and a countywide teachers' meeting prior to the opening of school. However, due to mandatory furlough days for teachers, the opening of school this year was very unusual. We only had two days of preplanning, no Open House, and no countywide meeting. Most of us don't really look forward to the countywide meeting....because we're thinking of everything we have left to do back at the school. A bright spot in the meeting, however, is the Teacher of the Year program and the announcement of our new County Teacher of the Year. I thought it was kind of a rip-off for the teacher-of-the-year nominees, but the administration tried to make up for it by having a short program and announcement at the first high school football game Friday night.

Oh, well....to make a long story short, I wanted to come up with a little something for our school's teacher of the year to show her how much we appreciate what she does for children. She's a wonderful language arts teacher and we're very proud of her. I also made one for the county teacher of the year. She's not at my school, but she's a wonderful teacher also. The nominees from all our county schools are fantastic teachers and I'm sure choosing just one was a very tough decision to make.

I took this pic with my phone when I got out of my Tahoe at the new lake house Friday evening. The house faces west, so the sunsets are gorgeous on the lake. Can't wait to go back this weekend!

Needless to say, this summer has been busy for us....new house, babysitting, workshops for school, etc. Not much time for stamping....but I have NOT given up! School is back in session and we're slowly settling into somewhat of a routine. My daughter goes back to nursing school next week, so we'll have to get adjusted to that schedule with the baby. Stampin' Up! has some great new holiday stamps and designer papers which I can hardly wait to dig into. My plan is to start back with my monthly stamping classes, possibly the end of August...if not, definitely in September.

Anxious....Who, Me?

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." Philippians 4:6

In other words, don't worry about anything. God is in control...it doesn't make sense to worry. What's going to happen will happen....and God already knows. Everything that touches us has already gone through the throne of God.

I wish that I would remember this verse and what it means every time I catch myself worrying about stuff that I can't do anything about anyway. This past year and a half has been one worry after another, and I'm ashamed to say that I've let that worry control me. It hasn't served any purpose but to keep me up at night and do a lot of stress eating, which in turn causes me more worries....it's a vicious cycle.

I saw a message on Facebook from our Board of Education meeting last night that said the decision had been made to cut out all but two of the pre-planning days next week, and to cancel the Open Houses at all the schools...all of this in reaction to the state's mandate that all state employees take 3 furlough days. It seems so unfair to cut the pre-planning days because teachers are going to be there working with no pay...not that they have to be there....but their rooms would never be ready in only two days. It also seems so unfair for the students to be denied the opportunity to meet their new teachers. All of this on top of the 2% cut in pay we've already been dealt.

But...."be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." I must practice what I preach.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the fact that nothing can touch me without Your permission. I know that it's all filtered through Your loving hands. I pray especially for those whose lives will be drastically impacted by loss of income from the pay cut and furlough days. Help us all to look for and find the good in each decision that is made. I love You. Amen and amen.

I'm preaching to myself here... I read that when it comes to control, there are two kinds of people...those who control others and those who practice self-control. The person who likes to control others actually believes that other people or circumstances are responsible for what happens to them. So they wind up playing a blame game. They often end up in power struggles. On the other hand, those who practice self-control understand that the only control others (including the devil) have over them is what they willingly allow.... You have to come to the point where you understand that other people and circumstances are NOT your problem....how to deal with them is. Keep reminding yourself that the person you need to control is yourself. Remember to turn people and circumstances over to God and let Him deal with them. Draw on the power of the Holy Spirit in your life to control the way you react to things.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the fact that I don't have to control anyone except myself. You are in control...I'm not....and I thank You for it. When things don't go as planned (by me), help me to give them over to You. I love You. Amen and amen.

This is really speaking to me today. Have you ever made a list of things that you wanted to do to fix up your house? Chances are, six months later they’re still not done and you are okay with it. Golly, I hope that's not what I do with our new lake house! I have a strong tendency to become complacent. Complacency is very much a part of being human. Even the children of Israel became complacent in their slavery. They were so used to living that way that they actually got mad when Moses wanted to set them free! In Exodus 5:21, they told him, "May the LORD see what you have done and judge you! You have made Pharaoh and his officials hate us. You have given them an excuse to kill us." Can you believe that?!!! When you get so used to living with your problems and hang-ups that you lose your desire to overcome them, the enemy has you exactly where he wants you.

Have you ever wondered why some people have a deeper walk with God, while others just seem to flounder? The difference is commitment. Some people set out to pursue God and never stop hungering for that relationship, while others may have a hit-and-miss approach. God honors a strong commitment in the pursuit of His presence. Paul said to "Run in such a way that you...win." You can't possibly "win" if you've grown lukewarm in your relationship with God, and are haphazardly pursuing His presence. But, there is hope....there is always hope. God says in Zechariah 1:3, "Return to Me...and I will return to you." Get back on track and don't settle for anything less than the real thing.

We made a trip last weekend to Lake Oconee (between Milledgeville and Athens, GA)...home of Reynolds Plantation's six golf courses, including Great Waters which hosted the 2008 PGA Professional National Championship. It's a gorgeous lake featuring many, many multi-million dollar homes. We went there specifically to hunt for a lake house...most definitely not one of the $$$$$$$ houses! We found two houses right on the lake that we really like, but we're still looking and aren't quite ready to make an offer on one.

This is the first time I've tried the bubble wrap technique. I saw a "bee card" in a magazine and it had the bubble wrap background, so I thought it would be perfect for Just Buzzin' By by SU! I inked up a strip of bubble wrap with So Saffron and More Mustard and then pressed my Shimmery White cardstock onto the bubble wrap. The effect is so cool!

We're back from our wonderful vacation at Palm Coast, Florida. We had the best time! The weather was gorgeous. I have tons of pictures that I want to share. You know I can't pass up the opportunity to show off my little Ladybug! Check out the slideshow at the top right of my blog.

This card uses embossing to make the main image pop. The base card is Sahara Sand. I stamped the main image on designer paper from the Bella Rose collection. I matted the designer paper on a piece of Sahara Sand, followed by Chocolate Chip and a piece of To the Nines textured specialty designer paper. I stamped the sentiment in Chocolate chip on Sahara Sand and matted it on Chocolate Chip. I put a strip of To the Nines paper at the bottom of the card. A little ribbon slide from Hodgepodge Hardware (Very Vanilla) holds the Chocolate Chip taffeta ribbon.

Now, I want to show you what creature showed up in my stamp room...just looking at me....ICK!!! It's a giant yucky, icky, grasshopper!! Ewwwww!!!

We all know that money is a necessary part of life. So does God. But, in today's financially embattled world, many families have had to make huge changes in the way they live...not necessarily for the better. Often there is a whole lot more month at the end of the money. Experts tell us to budget our money. Budget? What budget? We look at our bleak situations and there's nothing to do but laugh...or cry. Crying won't help, though. That's our cue to trust God to supply our needs. He expects us to do our part...to do all we can do...but then we must trust Him to step in when we've exhausted our resources. Now, that doesn't mean He's going to jump right in and provide funding for extravagant purchases. But, I've heard so many times where God has provided what was needed when all hope was lost. Do your part. Trust God. Therein lies our hope.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the hope that we have in You. I don't know many people who haven't been affected by the financial woes of our society. At times we are tempted to throw up our hands and cry...or give up. Yet, all we have to do is look up. Our hope is in You. Thank You for being there and providing what we need. I love You. Amen and amen.

The Cost of Unforgiveness...

Grace.....we all need it. Nobody can go through life without being hurt, but what happens next is the really important part. Are you better....or bitter because of it? Bitterness is an infection of your attitude and mood. It can cause you to lose your friends and alienate people. Nobody wants to be around a bitter person. If you're not careful, bitterness in others can also rub off on you, leaving you with negative attitudes. Have you every been around someone who only wanted to talk about "what so-and-so did to me"? Do you know someone who keeps scores on the wrongs they've been dealt? Hopefully, it's not you. If you've allowed some bitterness and unforgiveness towards someone to creep into your life and haven't let it go, remember what Jesus said..."For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.." (Matthew 6:14-15).
Nobody really knows what anyone else has been through, but Jesus does. Nobody has ever been treated worse than Jesus, yet he was preaching forgiveness while on the cross. If He can do it, surely we can. God will give us the grace to do it!

Father, I thank You for this day and for the grace You offer so freely. I ask You to forgive me for any bitterness I've harbored in my life, and help me to freely offer forgiveness to those who hurt me. I love You. Amen and amen.

Open the Eyes of My Heart, Lord...

Anytime you're in a crisis, it's easy to lose perspective. Some people tend to withdraw from everyone and everything around them. That would be me. My vision becomes blurred by my situation. My perceptions are not what they should be. No matter how bad things may appear, keep your eyes focused on Jesus. He's the One who can clear up your vision and help you find the answers. It's when we take our eyes off Him that we lose our way.

Father, I thank You for this day and for enlightening the eyes of my heart when I feel all hope is lost. Thank You for showing me the way. I love You. Amen and amen.

Sticks and Stones....

We say, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me,” but most of us know that's not true. Words have the ability to wound deeply and a person can die of a crushed spirit. The person who spoke the words (even in jest) can live to regret the damage they inflicted. Very seldom does anyone get a "do-over". When you are angry, don't say things that might cause you a lifetime of regret. Ask God to show you what needs to be said...what needs changing...not only in others, but more importantly in yourself.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the truth of Your Word. Thank You for giving me guidance and direction. I ask You to forgive me for any words that I've spoken which hurt others and ask that You help me to temper my words with love and kindness, even in anger. I love You. Amen and amen.

God asked Moses that question. Moses was holding his shepherd's staff. That represented his livlihood...his income...his financial security. God asked him to be willing to lay it down. He still asks us that today. What's in your hand? Your money....your gifts....your education...your job....your relationships? Therein lies many of the strengths God has given each one us. Strengths....and of course, we have our weaknesses. Perhaps what we view as a weakness God views as a strength. Sometimes we think God couldn't use us because of our weaknesses. Well, who better to speak to and minister to those who are hurting than those who've been hurt themselves? Who better to minister to the imprisoned than those who've experienced imprisonment? I'm not just talking about incarceration...imprisonment can mean all sorts of things. The point is, God can use us if we will let Him.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the strengths You've given me. I also thank You for the weaknesses because I know that it is through our weaknesses that we are made strong. I love You. Amen and amen.

Searching for a New Plan?

I am forever searching for a better planner (agenda) thinking that's all it's going to take to make me more organized and efficient. It looks like I would have learned by now that a "better planner" is not what I need. I need to consult with the One who has my life already planned. Yes, it's great to set goals for yourself. I think the most successful people are those who set goals...they seem to accomplish more because they know where they're headed. It's okay to decide what you want, but it's best to talk to God about your plans. Proverbs 19:21 says "Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails."

Father, I thank You for this day and for the plans that You have for me. I know they are plans to prosper me and not to harm me. Plans for a hope and a future. Help me to remember to call on You when I make plans of my own. I want my plans to be what You would have me to do. Only then will I be successful. I love You. Amen and amen.

We went to Hobby Lobby the other day and I happened to find a display of travel tissues. When I saw this pack made of sage and chocolate colors, I knew exactly what to do with them! The "To the Nines" specialty cardstock from SU! is a perfect match!! That cardstock makes everything look elegant...even tissue. I used Julie Ebersole's template to make this cover. The Power of the Word...

When listening to or reading God's Word, accept it as God's Word...not man's. It's authoritative...Jesus spoke with authority and power. We share the power of the Word. Stand on it! God's Word is creative...with His Word he spoke the world into existence. God's Word is effective...it does not return void, but accomplishes its purpose. God's Word is the breath of life...immerse yourself in it. It's life-changing!

Father, thank You for this day and I thank You for the power of Your Word. I thank You that it accomplishes its purpose in the lives of those who believe. I thank You for the changes in me brought about by Your Word. Please forgive me for the times when I should have been reading Your Word, but chose to do other things. I ask You to create in me an increased hunger for Your Word. I love You. Amen and amen.

Baby, It's Cold Outside....NOT!

Sorry...it's anything BUT cold here in South Georgia! I just had to make this little album for our Christmas pictures, though. I know...it's more than a day late...but what can I say? Better late than never.

I have never attempted one of these clear envelope albums. It was pretty easy, and fun. It was kind of nice to do something Christmas-y. I found a tutorial online done by Robyn (check out her blog!), and followed that to make my album.

Sometimes there are no answers to the really tough questions. Cancer....divorce...financial ruin...jail...suicide...WHY? Those losses can leave us deeply wounded and wondering where God is. No matter where we look, how many questions we ask, how hard we look at the circumstances, who we choose to blame...there are no answers. What could we have done differently to prevent this? We look to God, but it seems as though the heavens are silent....
Here are some Scriptures to remember during those times...and believe me, they will come...: “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us” (Deuteronomy 29:29). When it comes to understanding the whys and wherefores, certains things belong only to God. He can choose to reveal them to us, but oftentimes does not. That's the point at which we must "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding..." (Proverbs 3:5). "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God" (Romans 8:28). He might explain things to us, or He may choose not to. But always, He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. He sees the whole picture. He has a plan and He's working it out. Our responsibilty is to trust Him.

Father, thank You for this day and for the fact that You see the whole picture. Your plans will be revealed to us as you see fit. We've had so much to deal with over the past few years, Lord, and it seems that it's not over yet. I don't know why you've chosen to have us travel this road, but I trust that Your plan is to prosper us and not to harm us. I love You. Amen and amen.

A Little Someone...

A Little Something for a Little Someone...is a little crooked...oh, well.... but don't ya just love the sweet baby face? This is for some friends of our daughter who just had a baby girl. The gift card holder features a punch art baby girl made with the wide oval punch and the tiny heart from the 3 hearts punch, both from SU! The measurements are 4 x 11, scored at 4 and 9. The pocket inside to hold the gift card measures 4 x 2-1/2. The designer paper inside (Sweet Always) measures 3-3/4 x 4-3/4. This is based on a gift card holder I saw on Kim Woods' blog Paper Pusher. I couldn't find any dimensions on her blog, so I had to make up my own.

Locusts...

When I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, one of the things that I did constantly was fret over the things in my life that I had failed to do. "If I could only go back and do it over, I'd..." I could have helped, blessed, taught, changed things for the better...so many things. I know God has forgiven me for everything I did and also for what I failed to do. I think we fail more often by things we didn't do than by what we did do. I have so much wasted time to make up for. God's Word promises to make up for the years that the locust has eaten...meaning that if I'm living for Him, serving him wholeheartedly, He will redeem the time that I wasted. I'm so happy that I serve the God of second, third, fourth, fifth.....chances!

Father, I thank You for this beautiful day, and the fact that You continue to give me more chances to "do it right". Thank You for not giving up on me. I love You. Amen and amen.
