Petal Card Heart Pocket Tutorial

I had some questions about how to put the petal card heart pocket together. Maybe this humble little tutorial will help!

Step 1 Petal Card Heart

Cut out two petal cards using the Sizzix Petal Card die from SU! I used Regal Rose cardstock and Basic Grey designer paper.

Step 2 Petal Card Heart

Put snail adhesive on two of the petals on the back side of the designer paper.

Step 3 Petal Card Heart

Fold and adhere the two petals toward the center of the petal card, forming the designer paper "heart".

Step 4 Petal Card Heart

Turn the designer paper "heart" over and place it on top of the cardstock petal card, lining up the petals at the top.

Step 5 Petal Card Heart

Place snail adhesive on the two cardstock petals extending from the bottom of the designer paper "heart".

Step 6 Petal Card Heart

Fold and adhere the two cardstock petals toward the designer paper "heart".

Step 7 Petal Card Heart

This is what your finished heart pocket will look like.

Step 8 Petal Card Heart (2)

You can now place small objects inside the "heart"!

M&M Tag Holder....

This is a super-fast treat holder made using a strip of cardstock (7-1/8 x 2-1/2, scored at 2-5/8). I used the tag corner punch on the top and added a 2-1/2" square piece of DSP to the front. The Hugs & Kisses image is from CTMH- Seasons of the Heart, and the flower image is from Happy Heart Day by SU! I used a strip of DSP to cover a packet of mini m&ms to go into the pouch. The sides are fastened with pink brads.

Light My Way...

"Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." Psalm 119:105

God's Word is His love letter to us. He wants us to have a passion for His Word. The more we read it, the more we'll want to read it. In the world we live in, there is so much to see and do...it's easy to get sidetracked and fail to pick up our Bibles. Yet, we must make a concerted effort to open God's Word. He will honor our faithfulness.

Father, I thank You for this day. I ask You to forgive me for the times when I fail to open Your Word...when I choose something else over You. Please help me to make better choices with my time, and choose the things that have everlasting significance. I love You and I thank You for Your Word. Amen and amen.

Round and Round...

This little cutie is made with the largest Nestabilities scalloped circle. I folded my paper and placed the die so that there would be part of the circle, on the fold, that wouldn't be cut. It's a very easy way to make a scalloped circle card. The image is from Happy Heart Day by SU! (114978 $23.95).

Tortured by the Future?

"Those who trust in the Lord are secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever." Psalm 125:1

As I think about my husband, children, and sweet little granddaughter, sometimes the future terrifies me. Yet, I know that God loves them even more than I do, and He has only loaned them to me. He didn't let me borrow them so I would be tortured by the unknown. His Word is a comfort to me, knowing that I can put my trust in Him. He only has the very best for them.

Father, thank You for this day and for the gift of family. I know that You love them even more than I do. I know that You have plans for them...plans to prosper them and not harm them...plans to give them hope and a future. I put them in Your hands and am secure in knowing that they are well cared for. I love You. Amen and amen.

Pick a Petal...

Wow! I'm lovin' the Sizzix Petal Card die!! (#113467 $19.95) I CASE'd the little square candy holder from Angie's website, but with a little extra surprise on the inside (candy wrapped in DSP with hearts made with the new paper punch from SU!). I came up with my own idea for the little heart basket. I simply cut two petal cards...one Pink Pirouette, and one from designer paper (basicgrey)...then put them together so there would be a little pocket in the middle to hold my m&ms. I added the wire handle and Pink Pirouette ribbon to finish it off. So simple!

Do You Know Your ABC's?

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." Revelation 22:13

Father, I thank You for this day and for being all things to me. There is no problem that You cannot solve...nothing will come against me that You cannot handle. Thank You for being You. I love You. Amen and amen.

R is for Red...

...my fave color! This little red acetate basket was made using the Sizzix Baskets and Blooms die from SU! I used the heart from the Priceless stamp set (SU!) on the front. I adhered a piece of red-line ricrac adhesive around the basket and then dusted with Dazzling Diamonds.

I didn't get any projects made this weekend. I had my Valentine Class on Saturday, which lasted about 4 hours. I was exhausted, but we had a great time! Then Richard and I had to get the house ready for the 20 guests we were expecting for Sunday lunch. We had a delicious lunch of baked ham, green beans, squash, rice and tomato gravy, potato salad, tossed salad, rolls, creamed corn, banana pudding, and cake. All the veggies (except green beans and salad) were from our garden. Yummmm! After we ate, everyone visited and reminisced about growing up. We should really get together more often. The only one of us kids who wasn't there was my brother (and my sister Carol who passed away about 15 years ago)....there were 7 of us kids....and we all have kids of our own...so the house was overflowing! I'm the only one of us with a grandbaby...lucky me!!! My little sweetie fell asleep about 5 minutes after getting to my house and slept the whole time. So, I had to go visit her late in the afternoon and get my daily snuggles.
I have to begin preparing for a couple of small Valentine classes coming up, so hopefully you'll be seeing some projects this week.

My Strength...

"The Lord is my strength, my shield from every danger. I trust in Him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy." Psalm 28:7

Last week was a devastating one for my family with the loss of my sister's husband (my husband's first cousin). Yet, regardless of the tragic circumstances, we never have to wonder or doubt if God is there during those difficult times. He is. No matter how many tears fall, He is there to wipe them away. Sometimes the trials we go through seem as though they will be the end of us. The trials serve to purify us as the refining fire needed to burn the dross from silver. No matter how hot the flames are, we will not be scorched. We will come out as precious silver. We have to give God our troubled hearts and watch Him do a transforming work.

Father, thank You for this day and for the love that You have for us. Thank You that we never have to doubt whether You are there. I plead the blood of Jesus over my sister and her family. There is power in the blood to heal the hurt in their lives. Please do a transforming work in them. I love You. Amen and amen.

En Francais...Love You Much

I feel bad about not posting since Monday, but this has turned out to be a rough week for us. My sister's husband (who is also my husband's first cousin) died suddenly Monday evening. He was only 52. The funeral is today. Please keep my sister and her children in your thoughts and prayers.

This card is one that is part of the Love You Much Valentine class. I haven't had time to make anything else. I never realized how wonderful the En Francais background stamp (109521) is! It makes the most beautiful backgrounds with Versamark. The card also utilizes the Love You Much stamp set, Riding Hood Red, Whisper White, and Pink Pirouette cardstock, Riding Hood Red striped grosgrain ribbon, and Candy Lane DSP...all from SU! We had a great Valentine class Monday and I'm looking forward to the one coming up on Saturday!!

Do Not Let Your Hearts Be Troubled...

“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way where I am going. Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. " John 14: 1-6

This is such a comforting passage, not only in times when someone you love is facing death, or dealing with the death of a loved one...but everyday. It's such a blessing to know that our Father loves us so much that He sent His Son to prepare a place for us. All we have to do is believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and His atoning work on the cross of Calvary. No one goes to the Father but through Him. He IS the Way the Truth and the Life!

Father, thank You for this day and the comfort You so freely give to Your children who are hurting today. I ask You to hold Kathy, Nichole, Erica, and Buck in Your loving arms and let them cry on Your shoulder. They need You more than ever today. I plead the blood of Jesus to cover their broken hearts with healing. Thank You for what I know You are going to do. I love You. Amen and amen.

New Pics of My Ladybug...

Here are a couple of new pics of my sweet ladybug. Her mom (my daughter Stella) sent these two pictures she took with her phone via email. The first picture was taken a couple of weeks ago right before she took her bath. The second picture was taken yesterday when she was lounging on the Boppy pillow in her diaper. She's such a sweetie. I'm heading out to see her now! I need my daily baby fix!!

Something New to Love...

This is my first "envelope" card. I started with a sealed invitation-size envelope. After trimming one end off, I rolled (not folded) it in half, lengthwise, and cut the corner at an angle. I did this to make sure both corners ended up evenly trimmed on the diagonal. I could have measured it and marked it before cutting each side individually, but I figured doing it the other way saved me some time. I folded the front flap down and covered the flap and front with DSP. The pink polka-dot on the folded flap is from Sweet Always by SU! The heart paper is from BasicGrey---"Bittersweet- Mousse" For the card inside, I layered Whisper White onto Pink Pirouette and trimmed the top with scraps of Pink Pirouette and DSP. The image and sentiment is from Something New to Love by SU! I sponged the edges of everything with Creamy Caramel, added ribbon and Creamy Caramel buttons sewed on with linen thread.

What's Your Choice?

"You did not choose Me, but I chose you." John 15:16

Do you remember "choosing teams" as a child playing at recess? I do....painfully remember. I was always the last one chosen, probably because I was an uncoordinated geek. I praise the Lord today that He doesn't "choose teams" like children do! As I think back over my life...years that I wasted making wrong choices...it breaks my heart. There are no "do-overs"...no "gimmes"...no "mulligans" in life. The choices we make determine our present and future. We can't do anything to change the past. As I recall this verse in John 15, I am so thankful that my God does not make any wrong choices. He chose me...even when I didn't choose Him. He saw something in me that I couldn't see in myself.

Father, I thank You for this beautiful day and the fact that You chose me. In my own eyes, I was not worthy of being chosen by anyone...least of all You. But, thank You for seeing the potential that was there all the time, but I had kept covered up by things of this world and choices that drove me farther away from my First Love. Even when I didn't choose You, You chose me. For that I praise You, Lord. Thank You for being the God of second chances, third chances, fourth chances, and more. I love You. Amen and amen.

Sweet Candy Bar...

I'm sorry this is late posting today...we slept later because it was so warm under the covers and soooooo cold in my old house. We woke up to no water because the deep well had frozen. Richard took my hair dryer to the barn and thawed out whatever he needed to thaw so our water would run again. Needless to say, I didn't get my devotional done. I was looking at some images that I had stamped and watercolored early last year, but never did anything with them. I decided to use this image from the Merci stamp set by SU! as the focal point of my candy bar pull. I stamped the background image from Friendship Blooms on Pink Pirouette using Versamark. I embossed it with Iridescent Ice. It's kind of hard to see that in the picture. I used the tiny heart from the Merci set to stamp the ackground on the Certainly Celery belly band. I used my Chunky Celery Glitter to edge the focal image.
***We have the supreme pleasure of keeping Leighton this afternoon and evening while her parents go out of town to eat for their anniversary. So this is the end of the stamping for today!! I'll be feasting on some sweet baby sugar!

Friend to Friend...

I love these Top Note treat holders! The idea came from Andrea Walford during Christmas. To make one, you simply cut out (2) Riding Hood Red and (2) Very Vanilla using the Top Note Die from SU! Then, trim the Very Vanilla pieces along the perforated edge. Layer them, decorate the front (I used Love You Much from SU!), and punch holes top and bottom for the ribbon. I don't really like how my heart turned out. I colored it with Prismas, but it's just too blah. I haven't decided what to do with it to make it better....maybe layer another heart on top of it, popped up on dimensionals...or perhaps some paper punching with my Mat Pack?? I thought about glitter, but that's not really the look I was going for. When I figure out what to do, I'll re-post the picture.

The Temple...

"Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple." 1 Corinthians 3: 16-17

Wow! What a conviction that is!! Does overeating, or eating junk, or not exercising count? Yikes! Guilty, guilty, and more guilty! God wants us to be shining examples of His handiwork for the whole world to see. It's so easy to get run down and stressed out. When I'm stressed, I tend to eat...and trust me, it's not good. I eat junk. To take care of the temple of the Spirit, we need to take time for ourselves. We shouldn't feel guilty about it, either. We need to be refreshed. There's no better way of refreshing ourselves than spending time in God's Word and basking in His Presence. I'm preaching to myself, here.

Father, thank You for this day and loving me so much. Thank You for this body that I've spent years abusing. Forgive me for not taking proper care of Your temple. When I'm stressed out, Lord, please help me remember that I can go to You and be refreshed and renewed. I love You. Amen and amen.

The sentiment is from Love You Much (113756- $25.95) and the ribbon is Pretty in Pink tafetta (109067- $6.95).

Who Are You Working For?

"Be strong and steady, always enthusiastic about the Lord's work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless." 1 Corinthians 15:58

Sometimes we don't really know if what we're doing is making a difference. But God's Word says it is. God strategically places us where we're going to be a blessing to somebody. Even the smallest, most seemingly insignificant thing we do might lift the burden from someone else. We don't always know why God sends us to do certain things, especially things that nobody else will see...but that's ok. We work for God, not others. Wherever He sends us, He goes before us and prepares the way. We just have to trust and obey.

Father, thank You for this day and for the reminder that whatever I do in Your name may be just the blessing that somebody else needs that day. Most of the time I won't even know if I've blessed another person, but You know...and that's all that matters. Thank You for Your provision, guiding me and preparing the way. I love You. Amen and amen.

The Cupcake Stand...

I love this Crazy for Cupcakes stamp set from SU!. The Sweet Always designer paper is the perfect complement to the cupcake theme. I used my Nestabilities circle and scalloped circle dies for the main image. The 3 small cupcakes along the bottom are from Stamps by Judith and are punched out with the 3/4" circle punch, layered on a 1" Chocolate Chip circle.

A Blessing...

"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them." Romans 8:28

Sometimes I wonder if my being here on this earth really matters. Am I making a difference in anyone's life? God's Word says that I can rest assured. Whatever I do, God can and will use for His purposes. I may not see the impact in my own lifetime, but some day there will be somebody who looks back at my life and realizes that some little thing I did made a big difference in their own life. I hope that I'm around to see it, but even if I'm not, some day in eternity God will reveal that to me.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the plans that You have for me. I know that You are able to use everything for good...even bad things in this world, You can turn around for good. I love that about You! Help me to make an impact in someone's life today. May I be a blessing to those around me. I love You. Amen and amen.

"Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid of them! The Lord your God will go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6

There have been times in my life when I was afraid to stand up for what is right. God's Word tells us that there's no need to be afraid. He is with us, and will go with us all the way. Actually, He goes before us. I remember when my children were small they would be afraid to go into a dark house or dark room, unless I went first. They trusted me to protect them. We can trust our God to go before us and protect us. Do we trust that He's strong enough to handle any situation? You know, no matter where we go, we don't go empty-handed...we have the sword of the Spirit, the belt of truth, the armor of righteousness, and the shield of faith. Take courage! If God is with us, who can be against us?

Father, thank You for this day. Thank You for the armor that I put on daily to protect and defend myself...and I thank You for going into the "dark rooms" ahead of me. I know that I am safe and secure in Your strength and love. I love You. Amen and amen.
