Olive You!

I know it's not Valentine's Day, but this Olive You! card could be used anytime you want to let someone special know how you feel. I punched Old Olive circles with the 1-1/4" circle punch and 3/4" circles from Riding Hood Red. I sponged the edges of the Old Olive Circles, then mounted them on an Old Olive card. The Olive You! sentiment is from Stampin' Up!

Is the Lord Delighted?

"The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful." Proverbs 12:22

What an appropriate scripture for the day we live in. We are surrounded by people who seem to allow one lie after another just slip past their lips....without batting an eye. It's like a second nature to many people. Even in school we see how easy it is for children to lie....often....without remorse...very easily....they learned it somewhere. As adults, we have a responsibility to be role models to children around us. We should strive to be openly honest and forthcoming. If everyone followed that suggestion, what a wonderful world we'd live in.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the end of a long arduous week. I am so thankful for a weekend of rest. Father, I ask forgiveness for every time I have been less than honest about anything and everything. I ask your forgiveness for those in charge of our school system. Please heal the wrongs that have been done. It is Your children who are suffering. I love You. Amen and amen.

Happy Birthday, Baby Boy!

Happy Birthday to my sweet baby boy, Randall!! My baby is 27 years old today.

Randall as the ring bearer in my sister's wedding. The only way he would agree to do this was if he could wear a white tuxedo and get a pocket knife!

This one is classic Randall! He's trying to trap Santa Claus with an oreo cookie tied to the end of a fishing pole!

He will kill me for this one!
Randall was always the smallest one on his team.

Sweet school picture!

Randall wore this tiger suit everywhere he went, even after the tail was cut in half when he ran over it with his motorized 4x4!

Here's my baby boy!

Bring Us Peace, Lord...

“The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:26

We are experiencing such a devastating mess in our county with the budget, school board, and decisions being made to cut jobs for teachers. It's questionable as to whether or not there will be enough funds to make payroll for the remainder of this school year.  There is something terribly wrong when jobs in education are cut from the bottom (teachers) instead of from the top.  If our board doesn't vote to raise the millage rate tonight, there will be a great number more teachers who are out of a job for next year.   I have been an educator in this county for 20 years, but I left the classroom 2 years ago to become the Literacy Coach at my school, so I lost my tenure.  I hope that my 20 years counts for something.  The only thing we can do is pray and ask God to forgive the wrongs that have been done and look favorably upon us and bring us peace...the peace that passes all understanding to guard our hearts and minds...because none of us right now understand what's going on.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the fact that I still have a job to go to. We don't know what this night will bring, Lord, but You do. You've known this situation would occur and You have a plan through it all. Good will come from this, as You promised. We have to trust in You and continue to pray. Bring us peace, Lord. Our teachers need You so desperately today. I love You. Amen and amen.

Goin' to Grandma's...

My sweet Ladybug had her very first spend-the-night last night. We were thrilled to have our little sweetie stay with us. To celebrate the occasion, she even wore her "Going to Grandma's" cape! By the way, she's teething at 3-1/2 months! Stella took her to the doctor last week and that was his diagnosis...hence, the excess drool!

This is Leighton after her first night at Granny's! Look at those beautiful eyes!

Gone Fishin'....

I needed a masculine birthday card for my brother-in-law, so I picked up my See D's Gone Fishin' stamp set and got to work. Wayne loves to fish, so this was perfect for him. I used Kraft cardstock for the base of my card, along with a natural color cardstock, and Always Artichoke. I added some designer paper from my Cosmo Cricket pad of Christmas paper...but hey, it works!
I stamped "Gone Fishin'" twice, cut one of them out, and popped it up on dimensionals. Happy Birthday, Wayne! I hope you like it!!

Feeling the Stress???

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:29

If you happen to be a teacher in the county in which I live, you are feeling a tremendous amount of stress right now. Jobs are due to be cut because of a severe budget crisis...probably lots of jobs. It is NOT a good time to be a teacher. By nature, teachers have the need to be in control. Stress is brought on by our need to be in control...and to know everything ahead of time. How often do we pray, and say we're turning our problems over to God, but then go back and pick them up again? How often do we have Plan B in place, just in case? I believe we limit God by not trusting that He can handle whatever we give Him. Jesus didn't lay awake at night, stressing over how something was going to turn out. He knew that His Father in heaven would take care of it. Oh, we of little faith! The next time you start spiraling out of control with questions that you can't immediately answer, give it to God. He's bigger than whatever our problems might be.
(By the way, I'm preaching to myself!)

Father, I thank You for this day, and the fact that You are bigger than any problem I have. You are there...always....and care about the most seemingly insignificant things in my life. If it bothers me, You care about it. I love You for that. Father, I lift up each teacher...each employee of the school you and ask that You intervene and make provisions for their jobs to be spared. Whatever the outcome might be, Father, I'm trusting You to take care of me. Whatever happens will be okay...I am Yours. I love You. Amen and amen.

Cupcakes Grow On Trees?

cupcake tree

Oh, what fun that would be!!  For this card I used the Tree For All Seasons and Cupcake Stubby stamps from Stamps by Judith.  I think next time I use these images, I'll use a larger cupcake for the tree stand. What do you think?

He's Got Your Back...

“Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.” Psalm 23:4

Isn't it wonderful to know that God is looking out for you?  I've often thought that the most frequent promise in Scripture was about salvation or heaven, when it fact, it is about God's promise to watch over us, guide us, and protect us.  The twenty-third Psalm is one of those promises.  God reminds us all the time that He goes with us. When the Israelites were in the desert, God sent manna to feed them, and a pillar of cloud and fire that went before them.  What a constant reminder of God's goodness and mercy that must have been. When you feel alone...look up! God is looking out for you!

Father, I thank You for Your constant and abiding love...for watching over and protecting us. You are the pillar of cloud and fire that goes before me. All I have to do is look up. You are there, watching over me. Thank You! Amen and amen.

Hey Chickie!

I used this image from Cornish Heritage Farms to try out the cracked glass technique sometime last year. I discovered the image in my stash and decided to put it to use. I used my rectangle Nesties to mount it on my card.

Quiet Time...

"In the morning, O LORD, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch."  Psalm 5:3

Are you a morning person? I'm not. I really don't want to talk to anyone when I first wake up.  I have to try hard not to be grouchy.  If you think about it, the way we get up in the morning sort of sets the tone for the day.  You may have heard people talk about their "quiet time". I have tried over the years to have a quiet time every morning.  It doesn't always work out that way for me.  But, I love to be alone with God for a few minutes at the start of the day. When I first started trying to have a "quiet time", I would agonize over how I was going to fill up 30 minutes or an hour of time.  I've come to realize that there is no magic amount of time...even 5 minutes is a good thing.   Every day on my drive to work, I spend time alone with God, praying for my family, calling each one by name.  I want God to hear my petitions specifically for each one of them.  Also, if something particular is happening that day, I hand my concerns about it over to Him. I could easily start my day feeling anxious, hurried, fearful, or rushed. But I don’t have to. I'm going to start my day anyway; why not start it with Jesus?   Each day begins with a first thought, a first word, a first deed.  Why not let them belong to God? Petition the Lord, and then watch eagerly to see His hand at work in your life!

Father, I thank You for this wonderful day You've blessed me with. Thank You for the opportunity to spend an awesome weekend with my Stella and Little Ladybug. Those precious moments I spent snuggling with her and talking to her mean so much to me.  Thank You for my precious little one.  As I go through the remainder of the week, Lord, I ask You to help me prioritize the things I have to do. When I'm overwhelmed, I shut down. I need Your help to keep going. I love You. Amen and amen.

Sweet Celebration...

Watercoloring makes the sweetest images, don'tcha think??? This is an old stamp from SU!'s Send a Celebration set. I like the versatility of it, and the pastels make it a really sweet card. A little Dazzling Diamonds doesn't hurt either!

When I get back home today, and recuperate from Dance Competition...I plan to stamp, stamp, stamp! We're out of school tomorrow!! Yipee!!!

My First Love...

“Simon Peter said to them, ‘I am going fishing.’” John 21:3

I've read that scripture 100 times, but I guess I never really thought about it's significance. When Peter decided to go fishing that night, he may have been making a decision to get away from everything and go back to where he first met the Lord. What a plan! Anytime we get discouraged, we have two choices...we can either go back to the One who can save, keep and satisfy, or we can return to whatever was going on in our lives before we met Him. I don't know about you, but that's not a good move for me! Quite a few years ago, I read a book called The Sacred Romance. The book focused on the fact that so many of us have done exactly what God said to the church in Revelation: “You have persevered…and have labored for My name’s sake and…not become weary. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works” (Revelation 2:3-5). Has your love for God grown cold? If so, you need to go back to where you first met Him.

Father, thank You so much for this day...the Lord's Day. I ask You to forgive me for allowing myself to move farther and farther away from where I was in my walk with You. You didn't move...I did...and I'm ashamed. Lord, I want to go back to when I first met You. Fill me again until my cup overflows. I love You. Amen and amen.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!!! I chose one of my all-time favorite SU! stamps "Olive You" to make my card for today. I love the Real Red and Old Olive color combo. I don't like olives, but I love this stamp!!

“Having done all…stand.” Ephesians 6:13

When was the last time you were attacked? Attacks from the devil can come at us seemingly out of nowhere...when we least expect it. The enemy knows where we are vulnerable and he’ll push us to the limits. When he does, we have to remember: “Blessed is the man who endures…when he has been approved, he will receive the crown” (James 1:12). “Approved” means victory qualifies you for greater things. “Endures” means your staying power is being tested. So, “having done all…stand.”

The enemy is relentless. Therefore, we must be also. When it comes to prayer, persistence overcomes his resistance. That's where the endurance comes into play. So stay in there and keep fighting! God always comes through. When Joshua needed extra time to defeat his enemies, the sun stood still. God was saying, “As long as the sun doesn’t go down you won’t go down either, for the same power that’s holding it up is holding you up.” What a beautiful thought!

Father, I thank You for this day and for the power to overcome the attacks on my life from the evil one. Lord, they come at me every day, in one way or another. Some days I feel as though I just can't go on. But, You are always there to pick me up, dust me off, and set my feet back on the path You want to me follow. Without You, I am nothing. I love You. Amen and amen.

Honey of a Day...

Sorry for being AWOL since Saturday! I was frantically working on a Valentine class for earlier this week. I did manage to come up with a few new things which I'll share between now and Sunday. I'll be in Newnan, GA at Dance Competition (babysitting---hooray!!!) all weekend, but I've scheduled posts through Sunday. I really am going to try to do better about posting!

This is one of those 1 sheet boxes that are all over the Internet. I just happened to make mine using the new Just Buzzin' By stamp set from SU! (#113228). I also used the new eyelet border punch (#113692). I seem to be having a much harder time lining this one up than I had with the scallop edge punch. Maybe somebody out there has a video tutorial for us eyelet-border-punch-challenged people!

Come Away...

“Come aside…and rest a while.” Mark 6:31

When we look at the life Jesus lived, we can see that He used all things. We should always try to follow His example! Jesus did something that I find very hard to do in my own life...Jesus said no to good things so that he could say yes to the right things...the best things. There is an old saying that goes, "good, better, best...never let it rest, until your good is better, and your better is best". So often, I find myself spending a lot of time on "good things", but they're not necessarily the "best things" that God would have me to spend my time on. How do we know what to say no to (when it's not obvious)? The answer lies in Mark 6:31...get away from the crowd and meet with Jesus in a quiet place – a place to think, to pray, and to hear from be revived. The devil majors in three things: noise, hurry, and crowds. The more he can get us to be distracted with the busyness of life, the happier he his. It seems that we spend our lives in a rat race...but Jesus stands patiently waiting on the other side saying, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Will you come? A thousand voices...from all sides...will tell you not to. Ignore them!

Father, I thank You for today and for the examples Jesus gave us to live by. My prayer is that I will stop allowing myself to be distracted by things that have no eternal value...but to spend time with the One who made me Savior, Jesus Christ. I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.

A Truckload of Valentine Wishes...

I haven't posted since Tuesday, so I have a lot to catch up on. I've been working on Valentine projects. I had a little class for some kids at school on Wednesday, and I'm getting ready for a class Monday night. We have two birthday suppers this at my sister's house for my nephew Sam who is turning 2. The other is at my house for my daughter-in-law Lori. Happy birthday Sam & Lori! We love you!!

This first project is simply made with the Top Note Die from SU!, that was run through the Big Shot in the Swiss Dot CB embossing folder. The cardstock is Pixie Pink and the skunk image is from Pun Fun by SU!

The next project is also made using the Top Note Die from SU! I got this idea from Becky Roberts' blog, Inking Idaho. It makes a fun tag/card for someone special!!

I broke out my cherished Cerise designer paper (retired) from SU! to make the next project. It's made using the Petal Card Die from SU! I folded and adhered the two bottom petals upward to create a pocket for my Ghirardelli chocolate. Yumm!!!

I cannot remember where I saw these cute little sucker holders, but when I figure it out, I'll give credit for the idea. Super easy & fun!

This candy bar holder was based on someone else's design (again, I can't remember who it was, but I'll figure it out and let you know.) I didn't have measurements, so I made up my own.

"A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, But when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken." Proverbs 15:13

I needed this scripture so badly this morning. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed...and I haven't found my way out of it yet. I have to keep telling myself to smile...but my face is not cooperating.

Father, I thank You for this beautiful day and for the love that You have for me. Your Word says that a joyful heart makes a cheerful face. Lord, I ask You to help me look inside myself and count all the blessings that You've given me. I have so much to be thankful for...I don't have time to be sad. I love You. Amen and amen.

Valentine Duo...

This little set was fun! Not that they really "go together", but........ The Top Note bag was CASEd from Angie's website. I don't have the Sizzix scallop circles, so I used my Nesties. The "Love" tote bag is one of the die cuts that Jody Morrow is selling on her website....very easy to decorate and put together. Both projects use the "Love You Much" stamp set.

Who Are We Afraid Of?

"The LORD is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?" Psalm 118:6

Today we will have a faculty meeting to find out the school system's plans to deal with the budget cuts from the state. It's possible that people may lose their's possible that I may lose my job....not really my job, but the position I hold at this time. I should still have a job doing something, thankfully. I feel so badly for the student teachers and those still in school trying to make education their profession...things don't look good. But, God's Word says we don't have to fear...He is for can do nothing to us.

Father, I thank You for this day and I thank You for providing me with a job, especially in the economic times that we live in. I lift up each employee of the school system and ask that You protect their jobs. Each one of us has burdens and responsibilities that require us to make a living. Let there be another way to solve the problems. I love You. Amen and amen.
