Just Call Me Granny...

Sorry for no post yesterday, but I had something a little more important on my mind, in my heart, and in my arms! Little Leighton Virginia Leavens entered this world at 5:47 p.m. on October 29th. She weighed 5 lbs. 15 oz., and 20 inches long. She has long skinny legs, arms, fingers, and toes (she gets that from her daddy). She's the most beautiful baby I've ever seen...of course! We made it home from Savannah around 2:00 yesterday afternoon, threw our stuff down, and headed to the hospital to see our precious girl. Leighton was in NICU because of her size and the fact that she was not due until Nov. 19th. She had a little trouble breathing, but that has cleared up. She was finally able to leave NICU around 6:00 p.m. yesterday. I stayed with her until almost 11:00 p.m. just snuggling and loving on her. I'm headed back up there shortly! She needs her granny!!

Her entrance into the world was something in itself! Earlier in the week, Richard had joked with Stella that as soon as he went into the OR, she would go into labor. Well, they wheeled him into surgery at 11:20, and 9 minutes later Stella's water broke! Can you believe that? So, I was a basket case 3 hours away from my daughter, by myself, with my husband in surgery! The nurses kept stopping to see if I was ok, and brought me a box of kleenex. She was actually born 47 minutes after Richard came out of recovery. What a day!

I had a project to post yesterday, but was so anxious to get home that I didn't stop long enough to do it. So, I have two for you. One is a little onesie that I stamped with the tree from Mr. Twigster by SU!. It was stamped with Staz-on and colored with Sharpies. The second one is a card made using a Rubbernecker stamp that I did some paper-piecing on. I just love that stocking!

Have a spectacularly spooky day today....it's Richard's birthday, so we'll be celebrating it, along with Leighton's arrival home!

Authority Committed to Righteousness...

"Take away the wicked from before the king, And his throne will be established in righteousness." Proverbs 25:5

Pray the vote. Pray that evil influences will not prevail in this election.

Father, I thank You for this beautiful day and the newness of life. Thank You for the precious baby you've blessed us with. I want her to grow up in a world free from the wickedness that seems so prevalent today. Father, grant that wicked and evil influences will be weak and impotent in their efforts at bringing down the candidates for election. Usher into authority those who are committed to leading with righteousness. We will give You all the glory, praise, and honor. Show Yourself mighty through this election. I love You. Amen and amen.

Cold Cash...

No, I haven't been stamping in the midst of all the drama around here! I made enough projects over the weekend to have something to post each day while I was gone. We're in Savannah, and I've been awake since 3:30, with all kinds of thoughts running through my mind, so I decided to go ahead and do my posting for the day. This is a simple money holder made from the Ski Slope DSP from SU! The circle punch on the inside is off-center on purpose...to allow the recipient a peek at the face on the money inside. I'm sure you've noticed that the face on the front of a bill is not centered at all.
This is a very simple, but sweet, way to give the gift of money at Christmas. Sorry that I don't have the measurements with me. I think I started with a piece of DSP cut at 6-1/2 x 7-1/2, but I can't remember the scoring measurements. If you're interested, I'll post the measurements when I get back home.
Please continue to keep my family in your prayers. I didn't hear anything from Stella overnight, so I'm assuming that no news is good news....everything is ok. I don't want to call and wake her up this early. We'll be heading to the hospital for Richard's surgery in a little while. My son has my dog, Daisy...I hope. He was out of town for the past several days, but was supposed to go by my house to pick her up and keep her for us until we get home. I worry about her as though she was another child of mine!

Ruling In the Fear of God...

"The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me: 'When one rules over people in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God, he is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings grass from the earth.' " 2 Samuel 23: 3-4

Pray the vote. Pray that the Lord would bring righteous people to lead our nation through the election next week.

Father, I thank You for Your faithfulness to all generations. Thank You for watching over my family. Keep Your hands upon them, and keep them close to You especially while I cannot be close to them. O Lord, bring righteous people who fear You to lead our nation into the future. Establish godly leaders who glorify You as they lead, and let their tenure be as welcome as the light of morning at sunrise and like the brightness after rain that brings green grass to the earth. I love You. Amen and amen.

Update on Grandbaby...

Quick update on my daughter: She is still in the hospital. The doctor had her on pitocin to induce labor from 6:00 am until this evening. She had not progressed enough to continue, so they took her off for the night. They will resume the pitocin in the morning. Meanwhile Richard and I are in Savannah. I cried when I had to leave her in the hospital, but Richard is scheduled for surgery at 7:15 in the morning. We don't know how long he'll be in, but the doctor had said 2-3 days. Hopefully it won't be that long so we can get back home, either to see our grandbaby, or to be there for the delivery. My sisters are standing in as grandmothers-by-proxy! God is in control and He knows how broken my heart is right now. He has a plan and I have to trust Him. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers.

Shake It, Ginger....

Another shaker card...I'm addicted...but it's an awful addiction because I struggled with this one. Anyway, I think it turned out cute. I wanted a "country Christmas kitchen" look to the card, so I went with the red gingham designer paper (the Paper Studio). Looking at it now, I probably should have sponged the candy canes (American Traditional Designs "Holiday Cheer") a bit more...they're a little too white, as is the background of the ginger (imaginisce stamp). Oh, well.

Please pray for my daughter today. Her health is at risk right now, so she's in the hospital to begin labor this morning. The doctor will induce her today. The very sad and troubling thing for me is that Richard and I have to leave for his surgery in Savannah. Pray that the baby arrives safely before we have to leave this afternoon, otherwise we will miss the birth of our grandbaby. Pray that both of them would be healthy. You cannot imagine how much I have cried over this. Why can't anything ever be easy?

Thy Perfect Will...

"The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance." Psalm 33:11

Pray the vote. Pray that the purposes of God's heart will prevail in this election.

Father, I thank You for this day and the hope that we have in You. Your Word never changes. O God, Your plans are firm, faithful and forever. The purposes of Your heart will prevail through all the generations. Let Your mighty, perfect will be done in the elections this November. Lord, today I pray especially for my Stella and baby Leighton as she prepares to come into this world. I pray that Your hands would be upon both of them throughout the process. Protect my Stella as she brings forth this precious bundle of joy into our lives, and protect Leighton from all things that might harm her. I praise You for the awesome abundance of life You so freely bless us with! I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.

Merry Christmas, Dear Friend...Revisited

This was a quick little card using Cute and Curly by Stampin' Up!, along with Ski Slope Designer Paper and Riding Hood Red cardstock. The card measures 4-1/4 x 4-1/4. The DSP is cut at 2". The bottom is stamped with Happy Holidays from A Muse. I stamped the Merry Christmas Dear Friend in Riding Hood Red and punched it out with the curly label punch from SU! I mounted that on a Marvy scalloped square (pink punch), drew doodle dots with my white gel pen and popped the scalloped square up on dimensionals. I added a Riding Hood Red striped ribbon.

Richard and I will be leaving for Savannah on Tuesday afternoon. His surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. My daughter's doctor told her to come to his office this afternoon with her bag packed, as he was probably going to induce labor this evening. She won't know for sure until her appointment, though. So, I may be a grandmother by Tuesday!!!

I worked on projects yesterday afternoon and have enough things scheduled to post for each day that we'll be gone. Of course, the laptop is going to Savannah with me....how could I survive without it...but, they would probably frown on me bringing my stampin' stuff to the hospital room!

Pray for my daughter and the baby! Thanks!!

Utterly Astounded...

"Look among the nations and watch---Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days Which you would not believe, though it were told you." Habakkuk 1:5

"O Lord, I have heard your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy." Habakkuk 3:2

Pray the vote. Pray that the Lord would do something that would utterly amaze us and give His servant victory.

Father, I thank You for this day and I look forward to the work that I know You will do. Utterly astound us, Lord! You manifested Your power on behalf of Your people at the Exodus. Revive Your work through this election. I stand on Your promises for victory. I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.

Trophy Buck...

My son-in-law Grady bagged this trophy buck today...8 point, 200 pounds! That makes his 3rd deer this week, so none of our families will go hungry this winter! He cooked one of the deer shoulders yesterday and it was fabulous. That grin on his face will be even bigger soon when our precious baby Leighton is born. Grady will be a wonderful daddy!

Vintage Skaters a la Maria...

My friend Maria at Scraps by M was the inspiration for this card. I saw hers yesterday and fell in love with it. I didn't have the same stamp sets, so I used what I had that I thought might work. This was only the second time I've ever attempted the cracked glass technique. I'm happy with the way the card turned out, but I still like Maria's version better! Check out Maria's blog, she has a fabulous Holiday Card Class Kit to Go!

Riddles, Enigmas, and the Fear of the Lord...

"A wise man wll hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, To understand a proverb and an enigma, The words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction." Proverbs 1:5-7

Riddles and an enigma in this verse represent a principle of truth through a puzzle or problem to be solved. Needless to say, we have many problems that need solving. The fear of the Lord is a reverence and obedience to Him, and knowledge is the moral and religious sense that is only possible if one has a proper regard for God. Pray the vote. Pray that God's man will listen with discernment, add to his knowledge, and receive wise counsel in this campaign.

Father, I thank You for this beautiful Sunday and another opportunity to go into Your house and worship You. Lord, as we draw nearer and nearer to the election, fear grips the hearts of many Christians...fear that the disregard for morality, patriotism, and most of all YOU, will take our country spiraling downward until we meet with total destruction. You and only You can change the hearts of people. When the curtain closes behind them in the voting booth, sway the hearts of voters to choose Your man. I love You. Amen and amen.

Vintage Snowman...

I decided to try Dawn's tutorial again (see previous post), but this time I changed the scoring measurements so I had plenty of room for the velcro closure. It worked wonderfully.

Cut cardstock at 2-1/2x11 per Dawn's instructions, but score at 3, 3-1/2, 7-1/4, 7-3/4, 9-1/4, 9-3/4.

*Edited to add materials list:

2-1/2 x 11 cardstock (Kraft), scored at 3, 3-1/2, 7-1/4, 7-3/4, 9-1/4, 9-3/4

1-1/4" square punch (to punch out snowman), 1-3/8" square punch (to punch out square of Kraft)

1-1/2" square of Soft Sky cardstock (retired SU!)

Basic Grey Figgy Pudding "Shiver" designer paper, 2-1/4 x 10-3/4

Brown Gingham ribbon 10"

Sticky Strip

dimensionals

Word Window Punch

"Warm Wishes" stamp from My Favorite Things "A Scarf for Three"

Snowman stamp from SU! Festive Four (retired)

SU! inkpads and sponge: Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip (sponged with lightest color first, ending with darkest just at the very edges)

Open If You Dare...

I used Dawn's video tutorial to make this cute little mini-candybar holder. I must not have measured it right (or I scored it incorrectly) because there was not enough room for me to put the velcro closure on it. So, I improvised and used a little metal picture-holder-thingy held in place by a glittered brad. It works, but I would have liked to use the velcro I think. Anyway, this was a fun little project, so check it out!

Longstocking...

Do you remember Pippi? Every time I see this stamp from the SU! set called It's a Stretch, that's what comes to mind...Pippi Longstocking. Such a funny book! Anyway, I was trying to come up with a design that would fit in a skinny space on some cards that I had already scored and folded before realizing that what I intended to use them for would not actually work. So, I was left with a stack of folded cards and no way to use them. Now I'm not sure if this is what I want or not. But, it's all I had to show for all the work I did yesterday evening (most of my time was spent trying to clean up this disaster area).

I Have Overcome the World...

"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." John 16:33

Pray the vote. Pray that the man of God's choice would be given wisdom and ability from the Lord to overcome any obstacle or difficulty during this campaign.

Father, thank You for this day and another wonderful weekend to rest from a weary week. Your Word says that You have overcome the world. In Romans 8:37, Your Word also says that in all things we are more than conquerors through You. Our fate rests in Your hands, Lord. If Your people who are called by Your name would humble themselves and pray and turn away from all their wicked ways, You will hear us and move Your hand to allow Your man to be chosen as our next President. Father, I pray that Your people would be much in prayer for this election. I love You. Amen and amen.

Spooky Pocket...

Another "quickie" card! I didn't have much time to play yesterday after school. We had my son-in-law's birthday supper, so I had to start cooking as soon as I got home. It was 9:00 or so before everyone left and I was exhausted. So, here it is. A little Halloween pocket card created from My Mind's Eye designer paper, More Mustard, Really Rust, and Basic Black. The stamps are from PTI.

My Grace is Sufficient...

"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." 2 Corinthians 12:9

Pray the vote...Pray that the Lord would empower and enable his man in any area of weakness.

Father, I thank You for this wonderfully rainy day, and a Fantastic Friday! Thank You for another weekend coming up, and a chance to rest. I continue to ask Your guidance and direction for the people of our country as they prepare to vote for our next leader. Lord, empower and enable Your man in any area of weakness. None of us is perfect, and neither is our next leader. But, he can do all things through Christ who strengthens him. Show him and us the way. I love You. Amen and amen.

Happy Pumpkin Day!

Well, it's not quite Pumpkin Day yet, but this was quick and easy, which was all I could muster up after traveling 3 hours to Savannah and 3 hours back. We can actually get to our exit on I95 in 2-1/2 hours, but it takes another 30 minutes to get through traffic to the hospital. We decided we're just getting too old to make a 6 hour driving trip in one day. Normally we drive down and spend the night, so it breaks up the 6 hours, but we chose not to do that this time. Big mistake. I'm whipped today, and I didn't even do the driving!

Happy Birthday today to my wonderful son-in-law! He is very special to us and we love him very much. He is soon to be a daddy, when Leighton arrives. We're all getting so excited!

Show Me a Sign...

"O God, the proud have risen against me, And a mob of violent men have sought my life, And have not set You before them. But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth. Oh, turn to me, and have mercy on me! Give Your strength to Your servant, And save the son of Your maidservant. Show me a sign for good, That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed, Because You, LOord, have helped me and comforted me." Psalm 86:14-17

Pray that the Lord would defeat those who have no regard for Him in this election.

Father, I thank You for this day that You've blessed me with. I thank You for the coolness of the weather which is such a welcome relief from the heat we usually feel at this time of the year. Our Presidential election is right around the corner and so many are confused and don't know who to vote for. Father, You alone know the man You have chosen to lead our country. You alone know the fate of our country if the wrong man is chosen. Lord, place into the hearts of Your people the knowledge and discernment to choose rightly based on Your Word. May Your people search Your Word for direction and call upon Your Holy Name for guidance. Bless Grady today, Father, and thank You for bring him into our family. I love You. Amen and amen.

Warm Wishes...

I love these mitten stamps from Rubbernecker Stamps. If you haven't looked at their stamps, check them out. They have some really cute ones! I stamped the mittens on Heidi Grace "Jolly & Bright Mini Dots" paper and cut them out, popped them up on dimensionals, and ran a piece of linen thread from one to the other. I sponged the edges of the pocket with Staz-on Cotton White. The "Warm Wishes" sentiment is from MFT, and the "Snowy Days..." sentiment is from PTI. Faux stitching runs down both sides of the pocket.

I Will Not Be Moved....

"Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, Which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, So the Lord surrounds His people From this time forth and forever. For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest On the land allotted to the righteous, Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity. Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, And to those who are upright in their hearts. As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways, The Lord shall lead them away With the workers of iniquity. Peace be upon Israel!" Psalm 125

In this time of uncertainty with the financial woes and the upcoming election, pray that those who trust in the Lord will not be shaken.

Father, I thank You for this day and I pray traveling mercies for us as we go to Savannah and back. Lord, Your Word says that those who trust in You are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved. I pray that those who get on their knees and seek Your face and Your will to be done in this election will receive the answer to their prayers, and that Your man will be chosen to lead our country. I pray these things in the mighty, matchless name of Jesus. Amen and amen.

The host of heaven worships You." Nehemiah 9:5-6

Father, I thank You for this wonderful day. I praise and exalt Your Holy Name. You alone are worthy of my praise. You are the Alpha and Omega...the Beginning and the End. You are Jehovah. You alone are God. I love You. Amen and amen.

A Card for Rudy's Bag...

After gazing at the Rudy bag while I was piddling around today, I came up with the idea for this card. It's a take on the bag, but it's also a throwback to the way I decorated my classroom door at Christmas when I was teaching 4th and 5th grade many moons ago.

I started with a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" Kraft paper card. Then I cut another piece 4-1/4" x 5-1/2 and scored that piece at 1/2". I came down 1-1/2" from the score line and cut diagonally to the bottom center of the card on both sides to come up with the piece for his nose. The scored flap is adhered to the inside front of the card. For the hat, I used a piece of Riding Hood Red cut at 4-1/4x 1-5/16 and a piece of Whisper White cut at 4-1/4 x 11/16. The tail of the hat measures 1-1/16" across the top and is cut to a point at 4" long. I sandwiched the tip of the hat's tail between two Whisper White 3/4" circles. His eyes are 1" Whisper White circles and 1/2" Basic Black circles. His Riding Hood Red nose is 1-1/4" circle. His eyelids are made of one 1" Kraft circle, cut in half and popped up on dimensionals. For the ribbon, I used my 1-3/8" square punch and punched a sliver of cardstock off the fold of the card. It was just the perfect size to thread my Riding Hood Red striped ribbon through.

Watch the Shepherds...

" 'Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!'says the Lord." Jeremiah 23:1

The shepherds God is referring to are the political leaders. Many in politics are good people, but many are not. God expects leaders to protect, strengthen, and lead His people in paths of righteousness, not evil and corruption. But, on the other hand, those of us who are not in politics have played a part in this...we elected them. In the end each of us will give an account of our lives to God. I believe we will be held responsible for the choices we make behind the curtain in the election.

Father, I thank You for this day and I thank You that we have the freedom in this great country of ours to elect the leaders who we believe will be the best for our nation. It's very hard to know who to trust to do the things for our country that You would have them to do. Please place into the hearts and minds of Your people the knowledge and wisdom to choose the right man for our country. I pray the vote will be as You would have it. I love You. Amen and amen.

Rudy's Gotta Brand New Bag....

This is the result of a rare brainstorm! I just love how it turned out. You could use this little bag for treats, to hold cards, as a door hanger, or just hanging out on the tree. I used the new Pennant die from SU! and Kraft cardstock (not SU!). I chose to use another Kraft cardstock because it's a more true Kraft than SU!
