Chasing the Wind...

"I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you what is best for you, Who directs you in the way you should go." Isaiah 48:17

So many times we spend our lives running after things that we think "we" control. However, that is not the case. The truth is that we can do nothing in this life without God. He, alone, is in control. We cannot even do something to make a difference in the world, apart from Him. Yes, we can have tons of fun skating along in life doing things we enjoy, but none of it is everlasting. The trophies of this world only sparkle and shine for a short time. Those are the treasures we store up on this earth that will one day turn to dust. Our lives should be spent storing up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal (Matthew 6:20). God is all we need. He is the purpose for living. He will teach us what is best for us and direct us in the way we should go. When we seek after Him, we will find everlasting life.

Father, thank You for this day and the eve of a brand new year...the eve of another opportunity for a fresh start. Help me to focus on You in the new year, and not to spend time chasing the wind. When I seek You, I will find You. Your Word promises that You will direct my steps and show me the way. I love You. Amen and amen.

Tu-Tu Sweet...

I spent much of yesterday with my little sweetie, Leighton. She went to the movies with us to see Marley and Me, and slept most of the time. Then, we went back to my sister's house for supper. My brother and his family were here from North Carolina. Of course, her Granny snuggled with her most of the time we were there. Yes, I'm a baby hog. I admit it...and I have no plans of changing! I made this little Valentine treat bag with Leighton in mind. She is my little "future ballerina". Her mother (Stella) has danced since she was two years old and now owns her own dance studio. So, of course, Leighton will dance...she danced in utero for 8 months...she can't stop now!

Stamps: "Happy Heart Day" (SU!), Ballerina from House Mouse, XOXOXO stamp (Studio G clear stamp), "Tu-tu Sweet" was hand-lettered

Cardstock: Riding Hood Red (2 pieces cut at 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" for front and back of bag), Chocolate Chip (4-1/4" x 1" to go across the front of the bag), Whisper White (Stampin' Up!) for main image, matted with Chocolate Chip and Riding Hood Red

Designer Paper: Riding Hood Red Prints from SU! (4-1/4" x 2-3/4")

Ink: Black Staz-On, Riding Hood Red

Other supplies: brown brad, Key Tag Punch (SU!), Kraft bag cut at 4", Ticket Corner Punch, Prismacolors, Riding Hood Red striped grosgrain ribbon from SU!, bag filler made from thinly cut strips of Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, and Riding Hood Red, Word Window Punch, Corner Rounder Punch

See...I told you she was a ballerina!

Who Is This For?

"Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ." Galatians 1:10

Why do we do the things we do? For ourselves...for others...for acceptance...or for God? To be perfectly honest, most of my life has been spent doing things to be accepted. Sure, I've done many things for others and for myself every day. I've also done things for God. But, sadly I have to say that most often the things I have done were so that I would "fit in". I don't want to be that way anymore. I want to know in my heart that no matter what I do, how I look, where I live, how I dress, God loves me exactly the way I am. I have nothing to prove to Him. He knows me inside out, and still loves me. That blows my mind...because a lot of times, I don't even love me. How could God love me ALL the time? Yet, He does.

Father, thank You for this day You've graced me with. I cannot do anything to make You love me more than You already do. And for that, I am truly thankful. I know that You love me unconditionally...always have, always will...and I want to hide that truth in my heart and have it ingrained in my mind. I never want to lose sight of that. Father, help me today to begin living my life in such a way that everything I do, I do for Your approval...not that of man. I love You. Amen and amen.

Pssst...what's the password?

These are a couple of "password books" that I made a few weeks ago using my Bind-It-All. The pages inside are blank 3x5 index cards. I used the chipboard backing that comes in the packages of Designer Paper from Stampin' Up! to make the covers for my little books. The one on the left uses Jack's World designer paper from Cosmo Cricket, and the book on the right uses designer paper from My Minds Eye.

I still haven't had an opportunity to make anything "new" since Christmas. Just too busy....We had our last Christmas celebration last night with Richard's extended family. Maybe this afternoon I can take some time for myself.

My brother and his family are in town visiting from North Carolina. We don't get to see them very often, so we're all getting together Monday night for supper at my sister's house.

Have a blessed Sunday!

I Am the Alpha and the Omega...

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life." Revelation 21:6

God was, is, and always will be. He is the Alpha and Omega....Beginning and End. He knew me before I was ever formed in my mother's womb. He knows every hair on my head. He knows the moment of my birth, and He knows the moment I will return to Him. I have nothing to fear. He holds me in the palm of His hand. My eternity is secure. Yes, I will go through many trials and tribulations in my time here on this earth, but I can rest assured that He will go with me all the way....He will never leave me nor forsake me.

Father, thank You for this beautiful Sunday...the Lord's Day. Thank You for another opportunity to praise and worship You. Lord, I know that my eternity is secure, and I know that I will be here until You are ready to call me home. My time here will be a series of trials, but I know that You hold me in the palm of Your hand. For that, I thank You. Help me to make the most of the time You've given me. I love You. Amen and amen.

Need a Note?

These are such easy to make little notepads. They make quick little gifts for any occasion. I put a magnet on the back so they can be hung on the refrigerator. The notepads started their lives as a junior legal pad, which I had cut in half at Office Max. Since the size of each pad varies slightly, I had to measure each one and cut and score accordingly. I love the Chocolate Chip, Riding Hood Red, and Very Vanilla combo.

Go Light Your World...

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house." Matthew 5:14-15

I was reading about Robert Louis Stevenson last night. The story goes that at age 12, he was looking out into the dark from his upstairs window watching a man light the street lamps. Stevenson's governess came into the room and asked what he was doing. He replied, "I am watching a man cut holes in the darkness." .....Cutting holes in the darkness....... that's a picture of what we're supposed to be doing in the world....cutting holes in the spiritual darkness...being a light in the darkness of a sin-filled world. That light doesn't come from us...we are not the generators or creators of the light. All we do is reflect the light. You know, the moon has no light of its reflects light from the sun. The closer it is to the sun, the brighter the reflection. Just like the moon, to shine brightly we have to stay close to the source of light...our Savior, Jesus Christ. We can do that by reading God's Word, praying, and worshipping Him. We need to read the Bible and meditate upon the Word and pray and sing the Lord's praises. We can "cut holes in the darkness" by talking about Jesus. We must not hide our lamp under a basket, but rather let our light shine and reflect the light of the glory of Jesus Christ.

Father, thank You for this day and another opportunity to "cut holes in the darkness" of this world. Draw me closer to You, Lord, so that my light will shine brightly for You. There are so many times when I feel as though my light is just a flicker, but I realize that it was me that moved away from the Source...You didn't move. You never change. Sometimes I feel afraid to get closer to You, Lord, because it exposes the sin in my life and I'm forced to deal with it. Yet, I know that You forgive me. Jesus paid that price for me. So, why am I afraid? I love You. Amen and amen.

The Aftermath...

Wow! It looks like my stamp room threw up! I would take a picture (NOT!) to show you, but I left my camera at my sister's house yesterday. My goal today is to get it back in order so I can start on Valentine projects. When my room gets to the point that it's in now, I simply shut down and can't do anything creative...I hate even walking in there. I have a few new (to me, from me)gadgets that I want to try out (new Nesties, new stamps, and a Glue Max...the giant red one and the little pink one), so I have to get the mess cleaned up!

Since it was 80 degrees here yesterday (we've been running the air conditioner for two days), we were wearing short sleeves and sandals for Christmas! My little princess was able to wear her short sleeve smocked snowman dress. She was simply precious! Of course, she could have worn a burlap sack and been precious in her Granny's eyes. She slept like a log, snuggling in my arms through the entire Christmas event at my sister's. There were 14 adults and 5 children, so you can imagine the noise that she slept through! We had a wonderful time watching the children open gifts, seeing the joy on their faces, and listening to their squeals of delight over the gifts.

I don't have a project to show you right now, but hopefully after I clean up my stamp room I'll have something to share. Have a great day after Christmas!

The Season of Giving...

"For whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward." Mark 9:41

In this season of giving, God's Word exhorts us to give of ourselves....not with material things....but with the gifts of time, love, tenderness, help, etc. Reach out to others who need a touch from God. As Christians, that is our spread the love of Christ and the Word of God to a lost and dying world. God's promise is that when we give, He will return to us abundantly. We can never outgive God.

Father, I thank You for this day and the love that You so freely give. Your Word promises that when we give in Your name, we will be rewarded abundantly. Father, I'm not looking for material rewards...I want a closer relationship with you. I want to seek Your face before seeking Your hands. As the New Year approaches, please move my focus squarely in Your sight. I don't want to squander the time You've given me on things that don't matter...things that have no eternal significance. Help me to be ready to give of myself, whether it's my time, my money, or my anyone and everyone who needs a touch from You. I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.

One Last Christmas Gift...

I nearly forgot to post this one! I made it a couple of weeks ago. Of course, it's not my design, but it was fun to make and turned out really cute. I followed Lauren Meader's tutorial to make this. It took a long time, but it was worth the effort. I stamped the edges of the plastic bags with snowflakes using white Staz-On can see it if you look very closely.

Cardstock: Baja Breeze, Pirouette Pink by SU!

Stamps: Papertrey Ink

Designer Paper: My Mind's Eye

A Glorious Birthday...

"And she brought forth her firstborn son; and she wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock. And an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this is the sign unto you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men in whom he is well pleased." Luke 2: 7-14

Father, thank You for this glorious day and the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ...the greatest gift of all. Through his life, death, and resurrection we have eternal life. I love You. Amen and amen.

Frosty Day Gift Card Holder...

I used Lisa Somerville's tutorial to make this little gift card holder. The base is Tangerine Tango and the DSP is Frosty Day from SU! The main holder is 8-15/16" x 6", scored at 3/8" x 3/4" on each 6" side and scored at 3-1/4", 3-5/8", 6-7/8", 7-1/4" along the 8-15/16" side. The "Believe" sentiment is from Cornish Heritage Farms.

Come Near...

"Do not forsake me, O LORD; O my God, do not be far from me!" Psalm 38:21

This time of the year, when things are so hectic, we can forget the real meaning of the season. Rest assured, though, God does not forget us...He is never farther than a whisper away.

Father, I thank You for this beautiful day and the opportunity to serve You by loving and serving others. Help me to slow down my busyness and take the time to reflect on the reason for the season....Your Son, Jesus Christ. I love You. Amen and amen.

The Gift...

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Jesus is the gift. We are the reason for the gift. There is nothing better. It's the perfect fit...and it costs us nothing. But, it cost Him everything. Can you say that about any other gift under your tree?

Father, I thank You for this day and the perfect gift for the world...Jesus. I am a "whosoever" and I praise You for the gift of everlasting life through Christ Jesus. I love You. Amen and amen.

Still More Cocoa...

It has been so hot here lately, nobody has felt much like drinking hot cocoa, but this little cutie pie cocoa holder would make anyone smile...80 degrees outside, or not. I saw a similar project online somewhere...I'm sorry I don't remember where. I really wanted to make another cocoa holder like Lauren Meader's, but I just didn't have the time. This was really quick and easy. Again, I used an empty Papertrey Ink box. The hot cocoa mix, candy canes, and chocolate bars fit perfectly inside the box...enough for two people to share. The Hot Chocolate and Marshmallows stamp is from Cornish Heritage Farms.

Today is our first day of Christmas vacation!!!! Yippee!!! Freedom until January 5th! Richard and I are leaving for Savannah in a couple of hours. He has a checkup today, and then we're going shopping. Please pray for me...he's not the greatest shopping partner..."why do you need that?" "what are you buying that for?" "how much does that cost?" "don't you think you could do without that?"....aaaaarrrrggggghhhhhhh!!! I've threatened to leave him in the hotel room, or on the bench in the mall! We're going to stay overnight and try to finish up our shopping tomorrow before heading back home. I'm taking my laptop, so hopefully I'll have a chance to catch up on my blog-hopping. I've been so busy lately that I just haven't had a chance to visit all my favorite blogs.

He's Making a List, Checking it Twice....

Don't you love it? I think it's precious. The idea came from Andrea Walford. I don't have the stamp set she used, so I chose my Santa's List stamp from Cornish Heritage Farms. I think it adds to the vintage feel. These were fun and super easy to make.

Sweet Dreams...

"The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of a rich man permits him no sleep." Ecclesiastes 5: 12

Have you ever spent a day working nonstop to the point of sheer exhaustion? When you finally lay your weary head down, sleep seems so sweet. I guess that is what this verse is describing. The lack of sleep for the rich man could be from not having done anything to make him tired, or it could be from worry over losing his wealth. Do you know anyone like that...someone who has an abundance of wealth, yet is unhappy?

Father, I thank You for this day and the beginning of a wonderful period of rest and rejoicing over the birth of Christ. Thank You for my job and that I am physically able to be a "laborer". I have no material abundance, Lord, but I feel like I am rich in so many other ways. I have a wonderful family, a roof over my head, a job, transportation, food on my table, clothes to wear, a wonderful church, and most importantly...I have You. I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.

Sour Cream, Anyone?

Sour cream containers are nothing new, but still fun to make! These 3 are made from acetate...clear, red, and green...stamped with Cotton White Staz-On ink snowflakes. I added a jumbo eyelet in the top of each one to hold the ribbon and tag. The acetate came from a supply of overhead transparencies that must have come over on the Mayflower. I have had the old yellowed box for years and finally found the perfect use for them.

Treasures of the Heart...

"But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart." Luke 2:19

After the shepherds went back to Bethlehem to find Mary and Joseph and see the baby that the angel had told them about, Mary "treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart". When you treasure up something in your heart, it's as close to you as it can get. To Mary it must have been such a sweet affirmation of what the angel had told her 9 months ago. When I look into the face of my sweet baby granddaughter, it takes my breath away as I marvel at the miracle of life. Can you imagine Mary looking into the sweet face of her baby...the Lord Jesus? There's nothing else to do but treasure the thoughts and feelings and ponder them in your heart.

Father, I thank You for this day and a short school week. There are so many who are sick and need the rest this Christmas vacation will bring. Thank You for helping us get over our sickness. Lord, You have blessed us so much with our new grandbaby. As we look upon her precious face, there's no doubt that You are the Creator. How could anyone doubt? Thank You for the gift of life and love. Help us to be the grandparents that You would want us to be. Help us to "train her up in the way she should go". I love You. Amen and amen.

Gingerbread and Cocoa...

....mmmm....sounds yummmmmmmy! This is another "cocoa to go" kit that I made last weekend. I never got around to posting the picture, though. We've been battling a nasty stomach virus all week. Richard has been sick since Tuesday. I got sick Thursday night. We needed a quarantine sign on our door yesterday. Both of us were piled up on the sofas and beds all day long, in and out of sleep...up and down to the bathroom. We're both still a little puny today, but on the mend. That's the kind of virus you don't even wish on your worst enemy!

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21

My daughter's best friend had her house broken into and thieves stole all their Christmas gifts, social security cards, laptop, spare car keys, jewelry, etc. It's such a shame, but that type of thing always happens at Christmas. One of the things stolen was a pair of pearl earrings, the last gift given to her by her late grandfather. Those kinds of things cannot be replaced. Sure, a pair of earrings can be bought to take it's place, but the memory of the giver can never be bought. The treasures we receive here on this earth are only temporary. Our real treasure is in heaven. Christ is our greatest treasure. We are God's treasure and His heart is with us. If our treasure is truly in heaven, our thoughts, feelings, and mind are with Christ. Where is your treasure?

Father, I thank You for this day and the greatest gift anyone could receive...Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for the reason for the season. No matter what gifts I may give or receive this Christmas, I know where my true treasure heaven. I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.

Who's Watching You?

"For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong in behalf of those whose hearts are blameless toward Him." 2 Chronicles 16:9

You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout I'm tellin' you's not Santa who is watching's God. We need to realize that He is always watching us. He's looking for opportunities to reward those who are faithful to Him. He sees us when we're sleeping...He knows when we're awake...He knows if we've been bad or get the picture. Ain't nobody gettin' away with nothin'! (Excuse my hasn't started yet for the day!) There's nowhere we can run or hide from God. He knows. Period.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the Word which promises that You see all. You know when we've done wrong...but You also know when others have wronged us. None of us gets away with anything. We will all answer to You in time. I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.
