Pity Party...Not Me!

" Now a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, 'Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD; and the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves.' And Elisha said to her, 'What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?' And she said, 'Your maidservant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.' Then he said, 'Go, borrow vessels at large for yourself from all your neighbors, even empty vessels; do not get a few. And you shall go in and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour out into all these vessels; and you shall set aside what is full.' So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons; they were bringing the vessels to her and she poured. And it came about when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, 'Bring me another vessel.' And he said to her, 'There is not one vessel more.' And the oil stopped. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, 'Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your sons can live on the rest.' " 2 Kings 4:1-7

The widow in these passages was a believer and her husband had been a prophet who had taught Elisha and was involved in his ministry. I think these verses show us that it doesn't matter what problems we face. There is no problem or need which God cannot meet. We simply have to trust and obey Him. The widow was destitute...that is certainly a problem...but she didn't sit around having a pity party. She went to Elisha because she knew him to be a man of God. She did exactly as Elisha instructed and was tremendously blessed for it. How do we respond or react when we're faced with problems? Do we look to the One who can and will help us....or do we try to fix everything on our own...or even worse, sit, do nothing, and have a pity party? This is the crucial issue!

Father, I thank You for this wonderful day. I thank You for blessing me with another year. I pray that You will help me to make this year of my life count for eternity. Lord, help me to be a blessing to others because You have so richly blessed me. Father, I want to make a difference in the lives of others. A difference that turns others to You. As the widow in 2 Kings cried out, received instruction, and obeyed, I pray that I will always cry out to You when I'm faced with problems...that I will listen for Your voice...and most importantly obey You. I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.
