Retro Christmas...

Another version of the pocket card...this one reminds me of those pink and silver trees that people used to put up back in the late 60's-early 70's. Funny! I like this color combo. I used Tempting Turquoise and Pretty in Pink, sponged with Creamy Caramel. The DSP is from K&Company.

Friendship...The Sweetest Fragrance...

"Perfume and incense make the heart glad, but the sweetness of a friend is a fragrant forest." Proverbs 27:9

Friends...we all need them desperately. A friend laughs with you and cries with you. They share your pain. They share your joy. They cry your tears. They are indeed the sweetest fragrance. I have met some very wonderful people through this blog, whom I consider my friends. I am truly thankful for the joy they bring into my life every day. Even as sweet as our earthly friendships are, we have a sweeter friend in Jesus, whose friendship is the one to model all others after. If Jesus lives inside you, there is no one who could be any closer. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Father, I thank You for this beautiful day that You have made. I will rejoice and be glad in it. Thank You for the friendships in my life, Lord...for all the precious people You've brought my way. I pray now, Lord, for each person reading this that they would know You as their closest friend. Each one has their own problems and concerns and I ask you to take those worries from their shoulders and carry the burdens for them. Your Word promises this. I thank You for Your faithfulness, love, and friendship. I love You. Amen and amen.

Blue Christmas...

A blue Christmas is not necessarily a bad thing...not when it's Blue Bayou and Soft Sky blue! I'm using up some of my retired colors, along with stamps from the Punch Pals set by SU! The Happy Holidays stamp is from the retired Frosty set.

Wearing a Veil...

"But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them." 2 Corinthians 4:3-4

These verses are talking about those whose unbelief prevents them from being transformed by the saving power of Christ. The god of this age is satan, of course. He does not want anyone to believe, and does everything in his power to keep people from following Christ. He blinds them to the truth of the gospel. Those of us who have been lost, but now are found, know what that blindness feels like. The apostle Paul talked about scales falling from his eyes. When a person comes to know Christ as their Lord and Savior, the scales fall and the veil is removed. We can see the radiant light of Christ.

Father, I thank You for the saving power of Christ. I thank You for its power to heal and to forgive. Father, I know what it's like to be lost...but only because I've been found. How would I even have known I was lost, if You had not sought me and called me to Yourself? Lord, I love You. Thank You. Amen and amen.

Cookies, Anyone?

I just love making pocket cards. Y'all are probably tired of looking at them...but they make me happy, so I'll probably continue to crank them out. This one is made with Riding Hood Red cardstock, along with some SU! Holiday Treasures designer paper. Notice the cute little scalloped lace trim. I scored a brand new scallop lace edge punch from Martha Stewart...courtesy of my paycheck today! I didn't work all month for nothin'! I also used my Deer Friends gingerbread man...too cute! The edges were sponged with Close to Cocoa. The "Christmas Cookies" sentiment and tiny gingerbread man are from Papertrey Ink.

The New Me...

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17

At that moment when you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are a new creation. Old things pass away...old priorities...old standards...old loves...old beliefs...old values...old self-serving attitudes. Now, these things don't just disappear overnight. But, you begin to look at things with new eyes...the eyes of Christ. You see things in a different light. What once was acceptable, may no longer be. You will begin to analyze things you used to listen to, or watch on television, or read. There may be things that you will no longer allow yourself to do. Maybe not because it's "wrong", but because it may hurt your witness. Many of us have heard preachers say, 'Don't watch anything that you wouldn't watch with Jesus in the room. Don't listen to or read anything that you'd be ashamed for Jesus to hear or see. And, certainly don't go anywhere that you wouldn't want to take Jesus to.' Now, that may sound a little silly, but not if you really think about what it's telling you. As Christians, we ought to be careful to guard our eyes, ears, and minds against the evils of this world. It's often very inconvenient, and difficult to do when you're surrounded by worldly things everywhere you turn. But, 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." If we are to be His righteousness through the shed blood of Jesus, we must protect our witness.

Father, I thank You so much for this wonderful day...another fantastic break from work for a few days. Lord, I thank You for Your Word and how it convicts me of things that I know in my heart I need to change. It is hard, Lord...really hard guard myself against the evils of this age. It bombards me from every direction. I know that I am a new creation in Christ Jesus. I know that I am saved to be His righteousness through His shed blood, and I praise You for that. Please help me to live my life as a witness to this. I want to point people to you, Lord, not give them cause to doubt Christianity. I love You. Amen and amen.

What Have I Done?

"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad." 2 Corinthians 5:10

Honestly, this is kind of scary. I know that I'm forgiven for my sins, but to appear before the judgment seat to account for the good and bad in my life...that is scary. I'm guilty of doing lots of useless things, as well as self-serving things. Sometimes I just zone out...hours go by...and then I realize that I haven't accomplished anything at all. That happens a good bit when I'm surfing the web. My husband calls me on it when he sees me with that glazed look in my eyes. Seriously, though, I worry about spending time doing worthless things...maybe not really worthless, but not of any value for the Kingdom. I do try to do for others more than for myself, but I have a tendency to be selfish. These are things that I need to work on. I don't want to be ashamed when I appear before my Lord and Savior.

Father, I do thank You for the joy in my life, and for the blessings You've given my family. You are my provision. You are my hope. I realize, Lord, that I fall way short of doing the good things that I'd be happy to admit at the judgment. Father, I ask You to forgive me for all the times that I spend doing meaningless things that don't count for the Kingdom. Please help me to focus my life on pointing people to You. Help me to find ways to serve others as though I was serving You. I love You, Lord, and I want You to be proud of the way I've used the life You've given me. Amen and amen.

Cold Fries...

Cold fries? Yuck! Unless you're talking about these "cold" fries. I used my Burger King fry container to make a pattern for this Christmas treat holder. The paper is from K&Company. The stamp set is It's Snow Time from Stampin' Up! I used Very Vanilla and Wild Wasabi cardstock, along with Wild Wasabi double-stitched ribbon.

The Promise of Freedom...

"But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen." 1 Peter 5:10-11

This verse really speaks to me these days. It's a reminder to me that God is able to meet every need I have. Although in this life we have to suffer, it's nothing compared to the eternal glory we will share with Christ Jesus. Any suffering that comes upon us, God is able to use to make us perfect in character...make us what He wants us to be. We all have things in our lives that cause us pain and suffering. Some of it we have no control over...but other things we've brought on ourselves. Sometimes strongholds in our lives cause tremendous suffering. God wants to free us from all strongholds, but just know that suffering comes before liberation...before He frees us.

Father, I thank You for this day and the blessings of life. Lord, my prayer is for freedom from the strongholds which keep me in bondage. These are things I've brought on myself, through disobedience and stubbornness...and I know that. Your Word promises suffering a little while before You perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle me...freeing me from my strongholds. I thank You for Your promises of what is to come. To God be the glory. Amen and amen.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown...

This year I planted a row of pumpkins for Clara, my niece. My garden has withered away, including all the pumpkins I planted...except this one. Last year all my pumpkin plants were plowed down by an over-zealous mower. This year I had some beautiful pumpkins, but most of them rotted before I could pick them. This is the lonely survivor. It's the Great Pumpkin, Clara!

The card uses Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, and Very Vanilla cardstock. I colored the image with Prismas and Gamsol. The ink is Chocolate Chip and I sponged the edges with More Mustard ink.

Simple Prayers....

"Certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayers." Psalm 66:19

What a comfort to know that God hears us when we pray! Our prayers don't have to be eloquent, or a string of "church-y" words. God wants to hear from our hearts. Those fancy sounding prayers don't mean any more to God than the simplest of long as it comes from the heart. Have you ever listened to a child pray? It's so sweet, and so very simple. You have to know that God is delighted to hear the prayers of a child. He'll be delighted to hear your prayers and my prayers, as well. It took a while before I was comfortable praying in public, mainly because I thought (wrongly) that my prayers weren't "good enough" to speak aloud. Now I don't care anymore. I pray from my heart and I know that God is pleased to hear from me. I'm His child and He loves me.

Father, I thank You for this day and for the blessed rain You've sent our way. Thank You for the couple of "rain days" we've had. For so many teachers, I know it was a saving grace. They are stressed and anxious, Lord, so I thank You for this extra opportunity to rest. Father, Your Word says that You hear our prayers. I believe You hear our hearts as well as the prayers we speak. So often, Lord, I don't know what to pray, so I thank You for the intercession of the Holy Spirit on my behalf. I love You. Amen and amen.

Meeting in the Morning...

"My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up." Psalm 5:3

David is the writer of this Psalm. I think he's reminding us that our day should begin by meeting with our Lord. Read His Word. Pray. Talk to Him. He listens to me. He hears me. He knows my every need before I even ask it. Why do I have to ask then? Because He is our Father and He wants to hear from His children. That is the very least I can do. When I fail to pray, in a sense it's like saying that I don't need Him...which is absolutely not true...and it breaks my heart to think that perhaps this is what God thinks about me when I don't pray. God is faithful. My part of the relationship is to be faithful to Him. I can do that by having a faithful prayer life. There are times I fail to pray...when I wake up late, or in a bad mood, or sick, or just plain forget. I'm always convicted when that happens...and it happens far too often than I would like to admit.

Heavenly Father, faithful God, Lord of all, I ask You today to forgive me for the times that I fail to pray to You. I am so sorry if I hurt You by not praying. Forgive me when I allow other things that happen in my life to distract me from what I know to do. Please help me to be more faithful to You by being faithful in my prayer life. I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.

Well, these didn't turn out as I had envisioned them. Neither one. I'm going to rethink both of them and perhaps try them again. Don't you just love the snowman, though? Who would have thought of looking at a snowman from that perspective! Funny!! Everything used was Stampin' Up! except the snowman and the Cuttlebug folder used to emboss the pink background.

Tell More...

"And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.' Amen." Matthew 28:18-20

We were driving to Waycross this morning when we passed the Telmore Pentecostal Church. I had seen the sign a million times, but never really thought about the name Telmore. I think it's the name of the little community, but I thought it was kind of funny...Telmore...tell more. This IS the Great Commission. Tell more. Jesus wants us to tell all nations, all peoples about His saving grace, and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I know...I think some crazy stuff...but that name was like a reminder to me that I should be about My Father's business...telling all mankind about Him. Easily said. Not easily done. Some of the hardest people to witness to are the ones closest to us....because they know us...I mean really know us. I tend to think that I'm not worthy of this high calling. But the reality is that Jesus died for me and my sins have been forgiven...past, present, and future. That's not a license to sin, but acknowledgement of His saving grace in my life. I should be shouting it from the rooftops. I'm not a rooftop kind of person, but in my own quiet way I can witness even if it's not with words, but the way I live my life before others a living, breathing testament.

Father, I thank You for the forgiveness You have so freely given me. Thank You for Your saving grace. You've called each of Your children to testify to the ends of the earth. Sometimes I think I can't, for whatever reason, but the truth is that You have given me all I need to do the task You've called me to. You equip each of us to do all that You ask us to do. Thank You that I don't have to rely on my own power. I'd never make it. I love You, Lord. Amen and amen.

Here to Stay...

"The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the Lord endures forever." 1 Peter 2:24-25

I've been talking a lot lately about the Word of God. I love this verse in 1 Peter, and this is the perfect time of year for an illustration. I looked outside and caught a glimpse of our garden...once beautiful and withered and overgrown with weeds...waiting for Richard (not me!) to plow it under. We plant, the seed grows, and we reap the harvest...then the work of our hands withers away. But God's Word is the one thing in this life that we can be assured will stand the test of time. His Word will never fail. We spent so much time on our garden...don't get me wrong, we enjoyed it...especially the harvest...but we spent our time on something that was temporal. I think I'd do better to invest my time in God's Word. It lasts forever.

Father, I thank You for this wonderful weekend You've given me. Thank You for allowing me an opportunity to rest after a long week. Father, I don't remember if I ever really thanked You for the wonderful harvest You provided this summer. We enjoyed the fruits of our labor. But, Father, I can't help but think that I should have invested more of my time in Your Word. Our garden has withered and died, but Your Word withstands all things. It never fails. Lord, teach me to love reading Your Word...feasting on its bountiful harvest. I love You. Amen and amen.

Cocoa and Snowmen...

they go together, right? Even though I'm now a demonstrator, I still belong to my upline's Stamp Club, which I've been a member of for 2 years. I love that group of women. We have the best time! This card is almost identical to one we made at Stamp Club last night. When I got home I wanted to recreate the card, but had left my original out in the car. So, I winged it. I think it turned out pretty good. I sponged my edges with Close to Cocoa, used my Prismas and Gamsol for coloring, and used a different non-SU! ribbon. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same.

What's Cookin'?

"More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb." Psalm 19:10

In this scripture, David was talking about God's Word. He said it was sweeter to him than honey and honeycomb. There's nothing sweeter than honey. There are many verses in the Bible that talk about us tasting God's Word. Jeremiah 15:16 says "Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart." Job 23:12 says, "I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food." Psalm 34:8 says, "O taste and see that the Lord is good." I don't know how you are, but I like to eat. Therefore, I have to watch my weight. But, I don't have to worry about that with God's Word. I can have all I desire without any bad side effects. When we go on vacation, or on shopping trips, or whatever, one of the first things we ask each other is, "where are we going to eat?" Our social gatherings usually revolve around food. That's probably the same way it was in biblical times, and that's probably why so many references were made to food. Many people are passionate about food...both eating it and cooking it. Just watch the Food Network...look at all the cooking magazines and cookbooks that are available. I think I should strive to feast on God's Word more than on people food. It's much more satisfying, and a lot less fattening!

Father, I thank You for this wonderful Friday. Thank You that we have another weekend to look forward to...a chance to rest from a difficult and tiring week. Father, I pray that You would give me a hunger and a thirst for Your Word. So often I let other things crowd You out. Lord, I want to love reading Your Word more than anything else I could choose to do. I want to feast on it. Sometimes I feel as though there's a famine in my soul, Lord. Please create in me a passionate desire for everything about You. I want Your Word to be the joy and rejoicing of my heart, as Jeremiah. Lord, I want to treasure the words of Your mouth more than necessary food, as Job did. I thank You now, Lord, for the abundant feast that I trust You'll send. I love You. Amen and amen.

Forget the Shredded Wheat...

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17

God's Word truly is a treasure to be enjoyed and savored. In my old life (I'm a new creation), I never read the Bible. My reading material consisted of romance novels and self-help books. When God changed my life, He changed what I read. I have not picked up a romance novel since that time. I can't say that I haven't read any more self-help books, but the ones I choose now are self-help based on God's help. Albert M. Wells, Jr. says there are 3 stages of Bible reading: Stage 1 is the cod liver oil stage when you take it like medicine. Stage 2 is the shredded wheat stage when it's nourishing but dry. Stage 3 is the peaches and cream stage when it is consumed with passion and pleasure. Forget the cod liver oil and shredded wheat...I'll take the peaches and cream!

Father, I thank You for this day you've so graciously blessed me with. Father, I truly love Your Word. It is life to me. I keep Your Word hidden in my heart. Lord, I don't want the cod liver oil and shredded wheat. I want the peaches and cream. Teach me to love and to live Your Word with a fiery passion. Sadly, I could be the only Word some people may ever know. If that's the case, Father, I want them to know You through me. I love You. Amen and amen.
